Think I'll be in town for this. Past BBI's looked fun. Id love to rip around Snowbird or tour if anyone does an extended stay.

I'm not much for taking pictures inbounds (or anywhere) but these are from across the street from AltaBird. The last ones on Mt Olympus.

    whats goin on
    its winter in the wasatch
    were gonna bake
seems perhaps a 2betty marketing followup call
has let the chief betty aka the icewoman in on the bobbybakerinvatational utarded shindigs sheninigans
and she might be in attendance which is cool as shes the bomb
but her party shenanigans acceptance level is not quite the same as the icemans and thats probably gonna alter a few things
hope a few of yas have ikon passes
cause the new altera solikon business plan is to sell passes they hope ya wont use
and because all 10 of last seasons transferable shop passes had over 100 days
well we get 4 this season
hopefully i can reserve a few that weekend
we do have a couple of pow mows and sundance passes
hopefully bmc will let me put the driftboat in his shop and i can host an rv in the driveway
and ill clean a room or 2 for floorspace if needed

Going to look into planning for this after the first of the year. Haven't skied in Utah in several years. A floor to crash on or someone looking to split accommodations would make it more feasible. Have wippy stix stuff and ski tuning stuff to barter with for floor space.

if you have 4x4 (in practice: AWD/4WD/an SUV that looks like it might have one of those) and decent M+S or snowflake tires, you are fine, not everyone is required to have chains. http://updsl.org/page_canyonAlerts.php

Daily Requirement October 1st through April 30th

The Utah Department of Transportation requires ALL vehicles travelling in Big and Little Cottonwood canyons to be equipped with approved snow tires October 1st through April 30th. Approved tires can be identified by an M+S (mud and snow) or a Snowflake symbol on the sidewall of the tire. At a minimum, snow tires must be mounted on the two primary drive wheels of the vehicle. Tires must have sufficient tread depth to be effective. No bald tires!

Absent approved snow tires (sometimes called winter tires) properly sized tire chains must be in your possession.
at least 15% of the yearly Wasatch STOKE thread is people (justifiably) complaining that this is rarely enforced. I drive up in my Forester w/M+S fwiw.

The Bird was deep this afternoon. Most of the mountain shut down around 12 so tomorrow should be good for those who can get it!

He probably got out easily by following his entry tracks...in reverse. There’s no snow pileup behind him, so there’s probably no snow under him either that would stop him.

I dealt with this stuff a lot delivery driving in MT in a small Toyota 2WD pickup and owning a Suburu too. I never lowered mine though, I wish I could have raised it an inch or two.

there's a decent chance I can make this; not guaranteed but decent.

Any front range mags going? It's certainly easier to do with someone to share driving/gas. Also would be looking for floor space or sharing a place.

also interested in sharing a rental, sounds like there are enough mags going that charitable floor space is likely to run out

    Hey friends.

I'm looking at flights, nearly ready to commit, and could use some advice on transportation to/from the airport.

I think I'll land at 1230 on Wednesday. How quickly could I get to the mountains? Can I do this by bus? Where should I aim... anyone skiing that afternoon?

Departing flight from SLC at 1730 on Saturday (sorry to cut out a bit early... gotta move on to Swiz!). Assuming Solitude is the ski venue that day, how should I plan to deproach, and by what time?

Yo Dibs... still got floor space?

    Thanks,
    S

An hour from airport to sitting on a lift. Bus would be a major pain in the ass as far as I know. I’d probably take an Uber all the way up, or at least to the mouth of bcc and then bus up. Hopefully a mag is skiing and can give you a ride down.

You’re getting here a little late though to spend cash on a lift ticket. What about an afternoon tour instead?

Afternoon tour would be most welcome and I will be geared appropriately.
