Right on. Have plenty of firearm shops here in Oregon. I’ll take a look at the used options and go with that Savage/Nikon combo if need be.

Anyone a regular at a range near Portland?

Also anyone here defended themselves with a firearm against a grizzly? Would like to know what/if you recommend carrying in bear country.

I posed a slightly similar question back a few pages. Full sized Semi or wheelgun, 10mm, .45, .454, bigger the better, and bear spray.

The "AR" was designed for the military, it's main purpose is to kill humans, they have a conscious.
Um, small point, weren't all shoulder or hand fired guns designed originally to kill humans?

    ^^^ good start

I believe the best approved bear swatter is a 12ga pump with military slugs in the tube and shot shell in the chamber.

Mountain lions have been kicking it on our porch for the second time. I have been given a window to buy guns by the wife that I should/need to take advantage of.

I'm not going to go crazy here, but it looks like I can pick a Mossberg package including a 500 12 gauge, Patriot .308 and a MMR for around $1500 new including cases. Any reason not to do this given my window of opportunity?

Dont buy a Rustington. Go with a Savage or Tika.

If you are going to spend tikKa money, why not get a bergara?

The 500 and patriot are fine but the MMR isn't that great. Maybe swap the upper on it later while the wife isn't looking, then swap the lower...

Completely slipped my mind! Buy a Bergara and be done with it. They have better twists than tikka for heavies with .308 too.

A buddy has one and 5shot is a consistent half moa.

any guess as to why they're hanging out on your porch? is there an easy food source on your property?

Can people just kill them on sight when threatening the safety of your property, or are there laws which make it a shoot, shovel and shut up operation? Gotta say I'd probably think seriously about just getting rid of them regardless of what the law says.

In most states, no--not without the help or blessing of F&G. You have to have a tag and it must be in season...plus, there are often municipalities to factor in, depending on the OP's location.

Posting about it beforehand probably won't help the case, either, but I'm just an unfrozen caveman lawyer.

No mountain lions this far in... yet. We do have coyotes and an occasional lost black bear. Saw a coyote run across the road 3 blocks from my house last week. I love the mountains but not sure I'd enjoy dealing with cougars and grizzlies. I was thinking it probably isn't legal to kill them simply because they are on your property making you take shelter inside. Not sure if that's the way it should be but maybe just a cost of choosing to purchase/rent property and live in their world.

Pretty sold on the Savage Trophy Hunter in .30-06 with Nikon scope for $500... But first do you guys see any deals here? Apparently they price based on gun and sometimes you can snag a $$$ scope for a good deal.

I would stay away from Armslist, it full of scammers.

Look at gundeals, gunbroker, or any one a couple hundred online gunstores. There are stupid sales going on for the holiday and even some stores going out of business.

As far as scopes go there are only a few budget ones that are worth the money. Unless you can inspect the scope I would not recommend getting used. Buy once, cry once goes for scopes doubly so.

Would this be ‘good enough’ and a large step up the Remington 783: https://m.dickssportinggoods.com/p/s...11trphyhntrrif

    What caliber are you getting?
What are you getting for a nikon scope?

I have a car for sale, it has four wheels.
I have football tickets for sale, they are in the building.

This is a new one $529 plus the transfer so are about $$550?

You aren't getting a steal. The 700 I picked out bid up to $665, it didn't turn out to be a crazy deal.

Vortex is great for the $, 40% off is even better.

Of the 25-ish deals I did on armslist before they required checks here, I never had a scammer. I always did in person deals at the parking lot of McDonald's or pier one imports.
