I've got to share this - ordered one of these little cross-body purses for my Mom who uses one of those rolly-walker things. Idea is she doesn't have to fumble with a handbag. Should fit everything she need - cell phone, keys, CCs. She lives in a retirement complex with shuttle buses and what not so she doesn't need to carry much when they take her to the store etc.

I got her the owl which is no longer available but there are many other cute ones. They also have wristlets (clutch) and purses.

It absolutely blew her mind when she got a present with a bunch of Ulta crap in it last year...

anyhow, thank you KQ Claus. I don't know where I'd be without your present advice

Diamond, great tip. Went to Ulta today. First associate wasn't as helpful as hoped, but looked up the wife's account and pointed me in the right direction. I grabbed a few ideas and took them back to the counter. The 2nd associate looked up the account and confirmed that what I was buying was in the ballpark of what would make her happy.

BTW guys - one of the items was some Origins skincare. KQ suggested some of the Origins 2 years ago and it was a major hit.

So cute! I ordered these for stocking stuffers but I might just have to keep them The pic doesn't do them justice. If you have someone on your list who likes owls and appreciates supporting global artisans this is for you:

When you order from Novica you get a handwritten note from the artist. Could be fake but I'm going with a positive thought that it's real.

What temps and style? There’s so many options for pants for cold weather running. Tile Nine has some nice cold weather pants for running. I also use pants/leggings from Athleta and the North Face. Sporthill has winter pants and leggings that work well for running and xcskiing. Lots of options on backcountry.com too.

Thanks 2B - running is not my area and a quick search reveals there is much to consider like wickability, beathability, warmth pockets, safety (reflective qualities) etc. etc. Here are some links to help you in your quest but beyond that you will want to rummage through her closet and see what she has now paying close attention the most worn and the features that may point to why they are her favorite.

Oh, I forgot about Oiselle! They have a fleece lined tight that is on the list KQ posted for best tights for 2018, but they look to almost be sold out, except for smaller sizes. I have some of their lighter weight capris and shorts for running that I really like.
I run in the cold, so these are tights that I would consider if I were shopping for new winter running pants:
    Oiselle Lesley
Then on backcountry.com: Salomon Elevate, The North Face Winter Warm Mid-Rise (though I think they changed the design, I have on older pair), Patagonia Windshield Pant or Peak Mission Tight, Arc'teryx Trino Tights.
I have mixed feelings on Athleta, I have some warm tights that were purchased a few years ago that I like, but I have not purchased any new tights from them in over a year and they tend to change their fit and styles frequently.
I would definitely rummage in the closet and see what brands/styles she's wearing. I know I am super picky about how my running pants fit.

    Here's one for ya KQ.

I need ideas for a newish, long-distance but not exclusive GF, makes art for a living, woman of a 'certain' age, great taste. As you probably know, as we get to a 'certain age', we have often acquired many things that are what we need and like to have around so special gift ideas can be a challenge.

I'm thinking something small, useful, beautiful, keepsake-ish. This gift is not an attempt to take the relationship to another level, but a token of affection and gratitude for what it is. I'm on a budget.

Have you looked on the Novica site? Some great stuff there.

If there isn't time to order something... you're in Seattle so how about something memorable to the city? Have you been to the "Made in Washington" store? There are a lot of neat hand blown glass items there.

What about cruising the Market and checking out the local artisans in the north stalls?

Glassybaby votives are very popular and they are a Seattle based company. You could included a nicely scented candle like pine or cedar to remind her of the northwest and you.

Northwest Woodworkers Gallery in Pioneer Square has some lovely small items or at least they used to when I was in town so many years ago. Check out some of these boxes: https://www.nwwoodgallery.com/type/boxes

This little heart box is cute and only $50:

Thank you. The closest would be the wood box but I'm trying to think a little more more esoterically. She creates things in glass and beautiful, one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces. Has spent her life around artists and craftspeople, so the level of her eye for unique things is higher than most.

Yeah... when you said she was an artist I knew it would be a high bar. You should def. look through the Novica site. She would no doubt appreciate what Nat Geo does for the global artisans as much as she liked the gift. Read about their mission here.

The tricky people on my list are getting donations made in their name to organizations like the local animal shelter and wildlife organizations. Certificates get made. Those seem to go over well.

World Wildlife Federation will send a stuffed toy animal of whatever species you choose, but it’s getting late in the game for the shipping.

Audubon sends out a glass bird ornament that you can hang on the tree or in a window.

    ^^^ beat me to it.

In the spirit of the holiday, my neighbor has a 7 yr old boy that was an infant when they moved in so I have watched him grow up.

Yesterday the Neighbor and I were talking and the kiddo was hanging out. Neighbor asks if I am going to XXXXs Christmas Party (big building contractor in the valley). I say nope, I don't do much business with them. I ask about his plans, he asks his son, "Frank, do you want to go to the party, Santa will be there"?

Frank pauses a beat and the seriously says, "Not really, I need to talk to the real Santa".

    Priceless.
