Never bet against squaw because they will never actually close, just go on hold.

Dumping at 7750’. Was nearly snain earlier, but as it got heavier the past few hours temps dropped a bit. Still wet, but big fat flakes.

It is so heavy I don’t think it is stacking up much, but we’ve got a solid base up here at this point. Holes are getting filled.

Turned to snain around 4pm and full on rain around 7pm. Light drizzle basically, but things are dripping and puddles are forming. So close.

So since it's raining on top of all this new snow and the temperature has warmed up, does this mean Saturday we'll probably see an icy layer on top?

Temps forecast to stay same or higher into tomorrow so probably not unless you go early in the morning to slopes open to the sky all night. If it stays cloudy, that will keep things from freezing. My guess.

KW was fun today. 11 opened. Great skiing with my son and seeing him confident and solid. Off piste was character building, but plenty of fun once the crust got beaten down. Fun watching my son rail turns down it. Some girl in a squirrel outfit (seriously, wtf) lost her tail, so he picks it up and picks up speed to get it to her. The

I did one traverse to lower Oly, and the first three turns in the sun were really nice. The next ten progressively got into thicker ice crust, and the finally it felt like railing and hoping.

6 opens tomorrow. Sunny spots up high will ski nicely I think. They don’t expect to open till mid day, enough time to soften. The drops into Montes looked sweet.

Could be a good corn day. Snow is set up solid here. Kids were flying down the sled run after dinner. Feel lucky we didn’t finish with an injury. That track was running fast.

Game on up here. Things are stacked on the upper mountain. Just need this refresh forecast to hold.

Yes, the Wood has a good base now.
Glad they got 11 open, too late for my short day.

Ok interesting. So I was wrong about the crust. Was there a lower limit to the crust? In kings Beach at 6300’, there wasn’t any crust in the morning. How cold did it get? Did clouds clear during the night?

As of 2AM in alpine meadows at around 6500 feet it was about 39 degrees and while the sky was mostly clear I just think it was too warm for any freezing. Already noticed some decent freezing/crust in my yard at the moment, clear sky and 30 degrees when I pulled in at 9.

I thought I broke my face in that character building area north of olympic. Returning today for more death cookies and mashed potatoes.

@KW temps never dropped below freezing and there was cloud cover. We never really got rain, more of a mist for 12 hours. My guess is temps were close enough to freezing as the water molecules hit the snow surface, they froze on contact due to temp of snow. If larger drops of water were falling, it would not have frozen.

Anyway, there was a solid breakable crust here from the base (7800) to at least the top of 11 (8800’). It also easily melted on sunny aspects.

30F on the deck this morning. Things will have formed up a bit. Plan to hit a few groomers with the family and head home. Someone else will need to grey out and crush 6.

The Big Dipper magic carpet at The Star was spinning immaculate today.
    Top-notch grooming.
