for sure. I have been in the mentoring/coaching programs for many yrs and of course benefitted from all my coaches etc
it is challenging but I honestly think it is the best thing a person can do to immediately improve their community
this is why they say "you dont have to be perfect to be a mentor"- bc of challenging situations like this.
it scares basically good people away bc they believe they need to be *perfect* when in reality you teach this young person/ people to also work through life's issues as you sometimes walk through them as well

Booner, if your power play didn’t suck so much you would’ve have to swear at the kids for Christ’s sake...

booners a solid maggot. he comes across as self aware and doing a lot. How many of you are coaching kids multiple nights a wk on top of regular work?
blowing up is not cool but a well placed WTF is not the end of the world and my guess is that he probably doesn't do it again bc it was more trouble than it was worth
but better overall that he is out there coaching/ mentoring/ learning than not
i wasn't commenting on booner personally. i had a wide spectrum of coaches.

Nope. I never argued that. I just said it was inappropriate as a tool to motivate children. There are other appropriate ways.

good coaches that fuck up in minor ways will not be easily replaced
    we're all hooman
    Yup. Agree.

But he says he uses it deliberately as a tool to motivate outcomes of children. Inappropriate.

    Ha

In all seriousness this is the first year I've run true power play units...3rd line RW that isn't as fast as most but can shoot like he's 25 is on 1st unit etc.

We scored 20 seconds into first PP with a real unit out there the other day. Coach of the year locked

I try not to swear in front of my kid or other kids, but I'm human as are most of my friends, shit happens. And my kid knows that she's not allowed to use that language but as she gets older, I expect that shit will happen.

Also, Spook's kid is, like, 6, as they get older shit gets different. or so they tell me.

Remember reading how using curse words is a good alternative to physical violence. Psychologically.
And how peeps who swear all the time, like every other word, resort to violence way sooner than "regular" folks.
☆So, yes, there is a place for cursing in civilised discourse.☆

    Shit that annoys you

I don’t censor around my kids. Much. I think it’s important to (a) demystify curse words and not allow them to take on a life and power of their own and (2) teach them how these words are used appropriately. Quietly with your friends and peers outside of the ears of a teacher or parent or authority figure? Go for it, just don’t let me fucking hear it or about it. In front of somebody else’s kids where you are the authority figure? Probably not. Curse words are an important element of self expression. Seems silly to not teach them how to use them through example.
    focus.

    Shit that annoys you

I apologized to the kids in today's pregame speech.

Tried to turn it into a positive by telling them I'd chill with the F bombs if they promise to buy in 100% on putting the effort in that I'm asking for in practice. We typically don't have an effort issue in games

This is the best team I've ever coached in the 9 yrs I've been at it, and the first I've ever had with legit shot at winning league title and tourneys. I told them all that, and that it all goes out the window if they aren't willing to put in full effort all the time

We won 19-0 and I was making the kids shut it down after the first period

My wife asked me why our 3 year old always calls people “stupid assholes” while he’s in the car. I can’t really say it’s not my fault.

    On another note...

I took my son to Fantastic Beasts this afternoon.

When did people just start treating the theater like their living room?

Talking, up and down, changing seats, talking talking talking to each other. Two families in particular just wouldn’t stop

If they are going to treat the place like a living room, you should too. Explosive flatulence is called for.

I don't like how you have to turn BMWs off twice. Same with Rolls.

That's cuz Rolls now sources their electronics, engines, and half the interior bits out of the ol' BMW parts bin. Seriously, though. Seems that most manufacturers these days are making things needlessly complicated these days. Then again, that's par for the course for BMW.
