So now the battery in your smoke detector has a warning that it may catch fire or explode.

Getting back to shovels, the quality has really gone to shit. Does anyone still make one that won't fall apart or break under normal use? The dead hookers aren't going to bury themselves!

Only while recharging, so not actually in the SD.

I got onto these back in the fire crew days. Just a little smaller than your regular shovel and you can sharpen it (For cutting off annoying...limbs). I'm pretty sure these are on GSA contract, I got one after I retired because nothing else I used was as good:

    Also look for TrueTemper brand.

^^^ thanks. I'll check that out.

What started this was that I just broke a fiberglass shovel that I got from local tool store in half.

My brother and I have a little side business involving real estate, renos, construction etc, and we've been using True Temper tools for a long time, but my latest digging shovel from them is creaking like crazy. If it breaks I'll just put a new handle on it, but it's still kind of annoying.

Well, you’re not supposed to pry with a shovel.

Oh yeah, I know, but still occasionally guilty as charged. There's a lot of clay in this town too.

With some training, that'd be the ultimate avvy rescue and extraction tool.

Really dig how it functions as a shield too. Perfect for defending again those damn cougars.

Shit that annoys me might literally be in the City of Austin water system. They issued a “Boil Water” notice this morning due to muddy water from the recent floods clogging up the water treatment plants. To maintain water pressure for the fire department to be able to put out fires, they had to bypass some of the treatment steps. Thus the need to boil water. And the situation doesn’t look like it’s getting better any time soon. The remnants of that Mexican hurricane are supposed to get here in a couple days, so even more flooding and dirty water coming down the river.

Fiskars. We break shovels like you wouldn’t believe. Fiskars only get lost, never broken. Definitely worth the money for the all-metal ones.

    Shit that annoys you

I thought of starting a thread on this but,
    The Fucking Humane Society.
100 years ago and probably 5 addresses ago, my wife (probably) sent them five? bucks. Then we realize that they were the shittiest organization on earth, and they still track us down somehow and sent us gloves we don’t need. What in the actual fuck??

Seriously, fuck The Humane Society, none of the donated money goes to shelters that actually do good things. They use it to send me gloves?
    Fuck them.

that happens with lots of organizations, you donate once and are forever on their multiple mailer list, and the ones that send free gifts are the most ridiculous.

I think I’ll keep the gloves in the car and hand them to a homeless dude on the corner somewhere.

That said, your local humane society does good work, and if it's anything like ours (whatcom), doesn't waste a penny.
