Definitely no shortage of thuper therious get-off-my-lawn types at Alta. I still miss skiing there, but it's accurate.

i think he said alta was stoked to be paRT OF THE 8 MILLION DOLLARS OF OUR TAX MONEY THE MOUNTAIN ACCORD WASTED IN ACCOMPLISHING NOTHING in a non legal manner that has them being sued for such
they dont like the way the cottonwood commision wrote hr 5718 but dont bother sending anyone to the meetings
so their taking their grizzly gulch ball back
so they can stillcharge a lot to cat ski south facing meh most people only use for ups and allow slowboarders to pay for a cat ride you can walk in an hour
if it snows enough this season for them to cut the cat road

it means alta is going to use grizzly gulch as a bargaining chip to get what they feel is best for alta. Which means they'll likely ramp up developing efforts, maybe as a false bluff, maybe not. If I was betting, I'm betting it gets developed with Alterra now being a major stakeholder in the cottonwoods.

"Alta Ski Area has elected to remove some of its private land in Grizzly Gulch from consideration in the land exchange with the Forest Service to preserve its skiing experience for current and future Alta skiers, to maintain the flexibility to accommodate growth and preserve its snowcat skiing operations."

Basically says we want to build lifts later on, but we will write it in such a way that people think we are talking about snowcat operations.

They go on to say that because transportation improvements (gondola, tunnel) are unlikely to happen, they are pulling the private land off the table because they want to ensure the skiing experience of future skiers. This really doesnt make sense.

"Due to an unwillingness on the part of Utah taxpayers to spend billions of dollars in public money to fund transportation and parking solutions that will primarily serve to increase the profitability of our already lucrative private business, we are going to shoot the hostage."

They had originally agreed in principle / good faith to trade private land holdings at the base of grizzly gulch to the public in exchange for getting some of the lands in their main operating area to be privately owned. At least that's my understanding of it. This would effectively nix for good the idiotic notion of a lift in Grizzly Gulch, which was seen as a big win by conservation groups and the backcountry community generally.

Now that chips are down they're saying "no, we actually still want to be able to 'accommodate growth'" in other words put a lift in Grizzly, and they are no longer willing to trade those land holdings in Grizzly Gulch. It's not terribly surprising, but it is disappointing.

    Are you new here?

"By scaling back the number of proposed lodging units, development can occur in smaller phases, DeSeelhorst said. No other changes to the resort master plan will be made. Solitude will not expand its boundaries beyond those in the 1985 Forest Service plan, will not enlarge parking lots and will not ask for approval of more lodging units, he pledged."

Mountain Accord was just a bunch of pie in the sky, Ski Utah marketing mumbo jumbo. It was never going to be built and Alta was stupid to even agree in the first place.

Anyone actually have that 1985 forest service plan? Would be interesting to see.

At least solitude has been good of late, promising to not extend the honeycomb return lift further down to access from silver fork. Solitude made some decent concessions in mtn. accord. I feel much better supporting solitude than snowbird, and at this point, I wont support Alta.

If Alta does not trade land with the NFS does this kill plans for base area lodging?
