Yeah it's not far. There's also a killer Thai place just down the road and ridiculous Neapolitan pizza at Inferno is one traffic light away https://www.washingtonpost.com/going...=.7fa7428e899a (#1 in the listing)
Only been in the area once, during a visit to NSWC Carderock.
The river is cool. Is there much of a fishing scene? Watched some kayakers send the Great Falls. Also impressed by the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal.
Wait, Ice is an "aspiring mystery writer"?

Like I said, that lady was pretty wack. I have a couple books on Amazon though. Just got a check from them the other day actually. For $10.
looks like the old ice palace was near where i grew up playing golf
across the river from trump national
Yeah there's a ton of fishing, trout on the big creeks (Seneca Creek is about a half-mile away, it's like a small river) is probably the biggest draw but the river holds fish too. National Whitewater team (canoe/kayak) headquarters is a couple miles away towards great falls. C&O canal runs by about a half-mile from the house, cross one road and you can go for 180+ miles without crossing another. The indians built a dam across the river way back when right by us and it's all fallen down but it still holds water so it's like a big lake and then rapids right below, it's actually amazing how cool it is down there
The river is full of small mouth bass, though it has a somewhat-dated reputation for being dirty near DC. Lots of people fish up closer to Harper's Ferry. The water quality probably isn't any different near the ice palace except for the golf course runoff.
Also, some asshole contaminated some of the local fisheries with snakeheads. So there's that.
yeah
pool everyday in the summer when i was small
then golf with my dad most weekends
and i worked there as a camp counselor for two summers at the end of HS
we still get there when we visit my folks (my dad has belonged there since early 70s)
it was a pretty modest place for what it is (and what those places can be around DC metro area)
Oh it's still the same, they don't really put any money into it. If you still know any IMF/World Bank people who might be looking give them a heads up please, Bretton woods is like a 10 minute bike ride away if that. Probably less since it's all downhill to get there. A bit longer on the way back though!
yeah, no problem
beautiful home, ice. curious why you're moving?
in a funny contrast, we looked at this place this week. note the bathroom hooks on picture 20

I think I'm more on the keep the small house and retire early plan, but also I love the street this house is on.

Wow, quite the contrast to ice's house and for almost the exact same price. Damn.
cool house b-bear. that back shop is sweet.
Good lord baby bear, do not put that in this thread. Forget the deer hooves, the rest of that house looks like it was fed a combo of wood paneling, stone, slate tile, and popcorn stucco in the 1970's and then went and threw up on itself.

Sweet ice palace. Looks like the perfect place for one of this admins members to eat his gun when the walls close in. Put out some gilded statuary and one of the swamp creatures will buy it for sure. Maybe list the address in Cyrillic alphabet?
dang thought I had a pic but cant find in my phone
anyway a few wks ago I went to a bbq and the people had a full on ace ventura room of death, but in the living rm

b-bear, we built another place on the coast in mass., it was supposed to be a summer place but we built the hell out of it and once we got in here it became obvious to me that I wanted to live here not there and somewhat to my surprise my Maryland-born wife agreed. I never really intended to live in Maryland in the first place, I'm from Massachusetts and I was always coming back and then I met her and one thing lead to another.
But now by the grace of God I am finally back in the Commonwealth. I'll be going back down there sometime in the fall, her business is down there but when we sell the place we're probably gonna buy a condo near the business and she'll go back and forth from here to there. Should be a win-win I'm hoping but we'll see what happens. First we gotta sell the damn house.

well right now I'm house-rich but hopefully not for too much longer. shit does seem to work out for me for some reason, no clue why. Like this place im at. we only built it because in maryland the county showed up one day -the guy literally knocked on my door- and wanted to buy our back lot and add it to the park behind us for a stupid amount of money - more than double what we paid for both lots together. I was like, umm...okay. It was woods then and it's still woods now, the only difference is I don't pay taxes on it now, and now I have another house. I was basically just standing there and money fell out of the sky so we had to invest it in something and here we are.
