Last time I checked, all of the Pistols, save for Sid, were still alive...

Which could be rephrased as all four of the original members are still alive.

But my point stands: there are people who feel like they missed something original. And there are other people looking to cash in on that. (And the line between those groups is pretty blurry)

Funny you should mention that though, because I did see the Sex Pistols in 1996. My low expectations were exceeded, but it wasn't like being at the 100 Club in 1976.

It's probably something to do with an old couple wanting to go out, but they don't know who all the bands are playing are. Their favorite bands aren't on tour, or maybe one guy in the band died recently, but they can see a cover band for pretty cheap, so why not? No risk on an unknown band, not much money spent, no dealing with crowds and parking in a huge arena, and it's kinda fun after a few beers when everything sounds great.

They did a tour maybe ten years ago. They didn't get along well. It was Lyndon's idea. Cash in. I think Steve Jones is still a pretty good guitar player.

PIL is still around and recording. Those guys, I would pay big bucks to see.

Also: "They Might Be Giants has occasionally played their own tribute band" which is awesome except for their music.

Looking for curation? Have you looked at the what song do you want to hear thread in this sub forum? Lots of newer artists being played there that are currently on tour or constantly playing in festivals, which are everywhere these days. Like any of those artists? play their shit on Spotify / YouTube / etc and see what is recommended to you- maybe you’ll like it maybe not, it does take a little work. Record labels can useful for taste curation purposes. Spotify has been pretty good to me in this regard- I’m impressed at what the app suggests I should listen to.

Music is essentially free to consume. Most current artists have to play constantly to remain full-time mu$ician$, if they are able to be so in the first place.

I can’t keep up with the live music opportunities here in college town USA.

A bunch of small-time comedians made a YouTube series called Yacht Rock, where they impersonate the likes of Hall and Oates, Donald Fagen, Michael MacDonald type smooth light rock musicians. The series never took off but the name stuck to describe those types of bands.
