Bummer, I just bought 2 2.6’s I was going to mount just before they open the Gondi.

FYI: Rim loop is much less dusty than Sky Mtn. Campground Connector and W. Government are also GTG.

That was my take as well, although after trying a couple different options, I like some better than others. I was riding some skittery gravel bullshit in salida recently, and a dude on 2.6's was killing it on flat corners. With 2.4 / 2.3's, I was having to work pretty hard to keep up with him. But that was on entirely non technical terrain - on techy stuff, I feel like the bigger tires kinda lack precision and start to become a liability.

Should be a decent front tire. Might be a little overkill for the rear around here.

Unseen grease while cornering = back end goes rubber side up with SS's. lol.

Seems a reasonable use of EXO's.

Heh heh. Couldn’t resist. Have you tried the wild enduros yet? I think the rear specific one just got released. Fronts have been out in limited supply

I stand corrected. Vital just seems think it’s a trail tire.

I've been on 2.8 all spring and it's been good for the wet conditions, but that's about it imo. I'll be back to 2.3 soon. We have a lot of rocks and roots here and I like the preciseness of the 2.3, plus its fat enough to roll over stuff. The 2.8 at speed is not good for me, which is the biggest reason I'm not a huge fan.

Condensed my lighter and heavier bikes into one bike with two wheelsets. Had a hardtail AND a fatbike, not is a fatbike with two wheelsets. The fatty winter set and a "summer" set on 35mm IW rims.

Hardtail: Magic Mary 2.8F/Nobby Nic 2.6R : dig the fatter setup there. Have tried the 2.8 stuff on the other bike, and feel the slightly smaller works better for those, Don't want larger on this, as if doing that, may as well just ride the fatty wheels.

Magic Mary 2.6 F Maxxis Rekon2.6 R on 30mm IW rims, and Mary 2.35F/Nobby Nic 2.35R on 27IW rims for the trailbike. I'm not swapping out tires for different rides, but a diff wheelset depending n where/what. Burlier build vs. a lighter setup. So far the burlier is getting most ride time.

The DH bike has a DHF 2.6 F and DHRII 2.4 R on 27mm IW rims. The stock spare DHRII from the front is my spare rear. I like the DHF 2.6, but like the Magic Mary better. Will replace it with such when the DHF dies, which will probably take a while.

I'm no racer, and I don't race, but have nailed several PR's lately with the wider rim/2.6 trailbike setup vs. my prior 2.3-2.5 tires on 25mm IW rim wheels. Caveat: the new setup is also 27.5 and the old was all 26" stuff.

Have a 2.6 Maxxis Forekaster, and 2.6/2.8 Bontrager XR4 tires in the wings. Nice to have all the bikes on the same tires/sizes, more or less.

The expense of having spare wheels with the same cassettes/rotors on is far less than dealing with having two other bikes, and the impact on my tiny garage. Running the same brakes/drivetrains on all three bikes means I also have far fewer spare bits to worry about.

    I haven't.

Mainly because it *seems* like Michelin simply got lucky with the Wild Rock'R2 tread pattern. I don't believe that they have any other tires worth a 1/2-shit, do they?

I shall remain cautiously optimistic, but I ain't gonna be the guinea pig.

Yes, part of the reason why I asked. Really didn’t like the wild grip’r. Also i think it’d be hard to top the wild rock’r 2. New wild enduro kind of looks like a muddy Mary and I liked those apart from durability and quick wear but Michelin is good there

Thinking about trying a set of Addix Magic Mary in SuperGravity casing on my DH bike since they are cheap (30-32EUR) on the German sites. Would go purple/Ultra Soft up front and orange/Soft in the rear. I ran SG for a bit last summer in the bike park without issue (knock on wood)... save a bit of rolling resistance and not suffer with the damn wire beads which are hard to mount on my rims (Novatec Demon 27.5).

I fondled some Assegai as they had them in store at Corsa in Squamish (29er only). Tread pattern is definitely interesting. Also nice that it's DH casing and folding bead only. Not gonna pay $115CAD for one though, can get two MM's online for that.

Ya ya “magic” Mary is what I had. Pre addix. Supergravity. 2.6 was wide(they may have changed their measurements). Mine was the softer compound on the front. Just a good predictable tire. Was great on our steep loose trails. No problems with that one. I ran a rock razor supergravity 2.35 on the back for silver star jump trails. Pumped relatively hard. Really nice for carrying speed into the jumps and surprising good traction when needed considering it’s a semi slick . Punched a couple holes in it eventually on a trail I wouldn’t have imagined doing that. I’ll miss having something like that for jump trails but I think I’d go another direction for a rear tire. Maybe a dh casing semi slick from someone else. Fairly noticeable how much speed they carry between jumps and up the face of jumps. Makes every jump better

Any comments on 26" downhill/bike park tires? I just mounted up some old style 26x2.5" 2-ply DHF's, they are surprisingly tiny, smaller than my very old 2.5 single ply DHF's (stretched out), and about the same or smaller than the new style 2.3's. Very rounded too. Will the 2-ply's stretch a bit more? Rim is around 28mm internal.

My rims aren't tubeless ready, so any tubeless retrofit will be pretty sketchy unless I run some sort of rim protection with bead lock such as Procore or Cushcore. Was leaning towards running the Procore with the DHF's, but after seeing how narrow they are I'm reconsidering.

Now I was thinking about maybe going to a 26x2.35 or 2.5 Magic Mary, as they are both considerably bigger and available in multiple gravity versions. For example, I could get a 2.35 Magic Mary Supergravity Vertstar, and run it with Cushcore, this would be a fairly light setup. Supposedly these measure just shy of a maxxis 2.5WT?

I haven't ridden much DH or park in many years, but I'm building up an older bike with parts I have.

Moved my ardent 2.4 to rear and put 2.5 aggressor on front. Rode loose and rocky. Worked well and grabbed good. Nice and flowy fast. Might be good also on rear and will go that way when ardent wears out. So far so good
I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Does anyone notice the difference in knob height between Maxxis 2.5WT and specialized 2.8 butcher? I was running 2.5 Maxxis dhf WT, and switched to specialized 2.8 butcher. The knob height is about half of what the Maxxis were. Maybe it would be too heavy to run 2.8 with tall knobs? I have Maxxis 35 mm internal width rims so I wanted to try the plus thing and I can run about 3-4 lbs lower pressure which is nice. Run them front and rear

Can’t say. I was saving a a bit by moving front ardent to rear. Hear everyone runs dhf and aggressor on rear. But I ski pontoons in the park and don’t care

Or you are leaning the bike and hook up fine after a small drift.

Faster rolling, but a good bit less cornering and braking traction than the DHF.

Also, the Aggressor only comes in Dual (hard) Compound, I believe. So probably not a good front tire if it’s wet.

I like the Aggressor on the back where its fast and its ok if the tire drifts out a little in sharp corners but I wonder how that would work out on the front ?
