Howdy Gary; Frank is the owner if the Ripley Creek Inn. Sez usually he's craving some sunshine in winter but this year was craving more of the usual Stewart low cloud and snow after all these arctic outflow colder than fuck conditions.

    and

update to the update: the too fucking cold conditions persist, albeit with large diurnal swings in temps bring above freezing conditions between the hours of noon and 4pm...some ice has melted off the gravel roads in town bringing the official start of 'mud season' and pollen discharge from the alders. Micro mud season though as as soon as the sun drops behind the A.K. border ridge, the mud freezes cock stiff and it's back to the lion of march slaying the lamb that ventures forth to bask in the warm daytime sun.

side note; getting sick and tired of the rockies snowpack in bear pass. Mature facets on snow surface suck for uphill skinning with lots of backsliding on relatively low angle inclines, sidesliding on traverses and high friction wallowing in faceted out old windslab and deeper wind deposited pockets. All the while marching headlong into Cambria Icefield chilled arctic air blasted into face with ma nature's fan set on high speed...too fucking cold.

Suffering is worth it though; the downhill turns are sublime and very good snow stability means the slayin' big lines at night game is on!

JT our fearless leader gives the top Mountie job to a Lucki Women aka Person.

Brenda Lucki’s appointment Friday as RCMP commissioner — the first female Mountie to take on the role in a permanent capacity — was unquestionably historic and long overdue.

Canadian man names a new Arora phenomenon "Steve", which is Canadian for "Stio".

Bourassa is an everyday citizen who helped NASA and other scientists identify for the first time a light display in the sky, on which they published a journal article in Science Advances. The purple and green streaks resemble an aurora borealis, but scientists say it’s a different phenomenon that “may be an extraordinary puzzle piece” in understanding Earth’s magnetic fields.

    ...

Researchers across North America and in the United Kingdom are now studying STEVEs; NASA has called for more citizens to help collect data on them...

A French waiter was fired for being an asshole.

The waiter's defense is that he's not an asshole, he's just French.

    Human rights tribunal to come...

    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-43507949

A waiter in Canada fired for "aggressive" and "rude" behaviour towards other staff says he has an excuse: he's French.

Guillaume Rey has filed a complaint with British Columbia's Human Rights Tribunal against his ex-employer and its parent company over his dismissal.

He argues his sacking is discrimination and French culture "tends to be more direct and expressive".

But the restaurant says Mr Rey's behaviour violated workplace policy.

His employers, Milestones restaurant and its owner, conglomerate Cara Operations, say he was dismissed for the "aggressive tone and nature" he took with colleagues when he worked at the Vancouver restaurant between October 2016 and August 2017.

The waiter maintains he was fired for his high standards and the "direct, honest and professional personality" he honed in the French hospitality industry.

Mr Rey disputes their version of events.

Both the plaintiff and his former employers agree that Mr Rey was "very friendly and professional with his tables" and was often assigned as "shift lead".

But they had previously warned him his behaviour with colleagues could "be combative and aggressive".

His former employer tried to have Mr Rey's human rights complaint dismissed.

But in a decision earlier this month, the tribunal rejected their application, paving the way for a hearing at a later date. The restaurant says Mr Rey was fired when another server was left "borderline in tears" over a workplace disagreement.

    re; the waiter.
It doesn't specify if he's "french" or Quebecois not that it matters, still both rude. Milestones isn't really high end so maybe he'll end up at Moxies or something.

Are you Canadian? These are interchangeable synonyms here. To refer to some one from France we would say French french.

    Let's be clear.
The ones from France are arrogant and rude
The ones from Quebec are ignorant and rude.

Disclaimer. I have French Canadian cousins and most of them are great people but socially clueless outside of Quebec

IME that snotty frenchman thing is a left over from long ago, I was in france for 3 weeks bike touring amongst the people and we only met one waiter in a very touristy part of the Dordogne region who was having a bad day

I would reffer to the french in Canada as Quebecois vs someone who is French-from-France OR in the case of Angle Parking I call hm a fucking Qweb

An old business partner lives in Ontario. His company before we teamed up had a VP-Sales from Quebec City.

They once went on a sales trip to Paris. At the hotel, VP-Sales volunteered to take care of reservations/room keys.

Old partner watched while concierge looked more and more confused as the conversation with Quebecois continued. Partner asked concierge (in his Parisian French from school) if he could help.

She said "I'm sorry but it's very difficult to understand your friend through his speech impediment"

    This Week in Canada...

I scream, you scream, we all scream for Sweet Jesus!

    https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/201...nder-says.html

Sweet Jesus is not going to change its name, co-founder says

Over 9,000 people in total have signed petitions demanding Sweet Jesus change their branding and consider “how they have attacked God,” but the company is defending their choice of name, saying it comes from the common “expression of joy, surprise or disbelief,” that people have upon trying the much-lauded ice cream.

Popular ice cream brand Sweet Jesus may have come under fire recently for allegedly promoting “blasphemy,” but the company is not melting under the pressure—they say they have no plans to change their name.

The heat was turned up on the soft serve company earlier this week when right-wing bloggers analyzed the branding, and a petition on CitizenGo came to light, claiming Sweet Jesus “is all about trashing Christianity” and is “totally offensive,” asking that the company issue an apology to the Christian community at large, and change their name and branding.

“We want (Sweet Jesus) to consider how they have attacked the Christian community, and how they have attacked God,” the petition reads. At the top of the page, the headline exclaims, “Toronto-Based Ice Cream Parlours Serve Up Blasphemy.”

The brand, founded in 2015 by Andrew Richmond and Amin Todai, uses some religious imagery in their branding, but says their name is “an exclamation.”

“It was created from the popular phrase that people use as an expression of joy, surprise or disbelief,” Richmond said in a statement. “We found this firsthand, often using it while testing new items in our kitchens.

“We are conscious of the fact that, to some, our name can be off-putting. That fact is something we struggle with because we sincerely do not wish to give offense or show disrespect in any way toward anyone’s personal beliefs. Neither is it our intention to be exploitative or flagrantly provocative.”

The petition had reached over 8,500 signatures by Monday. CitizenGo, a conservative advocacy site, has been scrutinized in the past by groups such as GLAAD for homophobic and anti-choice rhetoric.

A second petition started on Change.org called for a boycott of the ice cream chain for their “Anti-Christ agenda,” saying that the sweet treat brand had declared “open season against Christianity.” They say an ice cream parlour using names and imagery from other religions would not be permitted.

But it looks like avid Instagrammers of the colourful cream will not be having to change their hashtags anytime soon.

“After a lot of thought, we have decided that we will not make a change,” said Richmond. “The best brands come from an honest place. Sweet Jesus is an honest reflection of our experiences and that of our customers and how they react when they try our product. In our experience, the majority of people understand that we’re not trying to make a statement about religion.”

A disclaimer has been added to their website to clarify that their aim “is not to offer commentary on anyone’s religion or belief systems. Our own organization is made up of amazing people that represent a wide range of cultural and religious beliefs.”
