Sad story. Sad to hear that young people get taken before their time should have been up. Vibes to the parents and families.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

I gotta go to Fredericton this weekend, I'll have to click it then. And by the way, is Brooklyn 99 still on Canadian Netflix?

Every corner of the country is displaying their jerseys and sticks this past week. It's the kind of tragedy that strikes far too close to home for so many communities.
Kudos to Ms Henderson for her dedication.

    So sad.

I've seen pictures of the intersection, you can see for miles. I can't really understand it.

One corner of the intersection is screened with trees, there's a report that the driver of the semi said the sun was in his eyes, and it seems his license for that class of rig was received only a year before. The company that owned the rig only had 2 trucks, and was recently incorporated. The bus had the right-of-way and it seems to me that the rig must have ran the stop sign at speed to have caused that much damage. But that said, the RCMP are being very tight-lipped regarding their investigation.
Even if the driver of the semi was completely at fault, I can't imagine what he must be going through. A horrible tragedy for all involved.

A tragedy like this should IMO open a discussion about the use of technology in big rigs and any large trucks. Retro fitting them with warning systems would be a good thing for now. All new ones should have it.

Perhaps the trees might have blocked any warning system maybe not. Even the use of satellite telemetry could be used to warn of proximity of other vehicles.

This cost money, I know but lives are worth more than any added cost.

    Just a thought.

Yeah, I hope something good can come out of this. One of my best friends in the 90's was killed by a B Train that lost control because the driver was going too fast for conditions. These things can cause so much carnage when errors occur, any improvements will save lives.

This one struck home to so many Canadians not just because of the sheer scale of the tragedy but also because players hailed from all over the country.

Traggicc. Reports confirming 9 dead & 16 injured.

POS was then trying to get the cops to shoot him, he kept doing a fake draw on the cop - dude held his ground and got 'the suspect' cuffed. Kudos to the LEO, in the US that man would have been dead long before...

The person shooting the video was pretty ballsy too sitting that close with their phone out.

    This Week in Canada...

Canadian driver uses lawn chair as driver’s seat, gets caught.

    https://www.terracestandard.com/tren...t-gets-caught/

An Ontario man was caught by traffic officers this week for using a fold-up lawn chair where the original front seat in his pickup truck would usually be.

Thunder Bay Police Service posted on social media that the driver was pulled over Tuesday for unauthorized plates.

That’s when the officer noticed the illegal chair, police said, as well as a broken windshield impeding the driver’s view, a defective door handle that effectively trapped the driver inside the truck, no seat belt buckles that would allow the belt to be fastened and an insecure load in the box of the truck.

The operator was also charged for being a suspended driver and being the owner of a motor vehicle while operating it on a highway with no insurance.

Hot dam! Beloved stuffed beaver returned to Chilliwack, B.C., park.

(...wait, it gets worse...or better...I'm not sure which...)

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/britis...wack-1.4637647

It's a happy ending to a harrowing tail.

Justin Beaver, the beloved taxidermied beaver used to teach thousands of children about wetland ecology, has been returned after being taken from its home in the Cheam Lake Wetlandsin Chilliwack. B.C.

Jennifer Kinneman, spokesperson for the Fraser Valley Regional District, said Justin was handed over to district staff Thursday morning in Agassiz.

She said because the district promised there would be no questions asked if the stuffed animal was returned, staff didn't question the man who brought it in.

"I understand he was found near the park," Kinneman said. "So whether this was an individual who found him or he knew his whereabouts, we're just glad that he's back and he's going to be ready to rejoin our interpretive program."

She said Justin was returned in fine condition and park staff are ecstatic to have the beaver back.

But the story gets better: a couple on Vancouver Island heard about Justin's story and decided to step up and donate a taxidermied beaver of their own to the district.

So this summer, Justin will have a friend: Sidney, named for the town the donor couple hails from.

Kinneman says the district will not pursue the circumstances of Justin's disappearance any further.

"I think this is the end of the story. It's got a pretty happy ending," she said. "We're looking forward to seeing how these beavers do in our interpretive programs this summer."
