I think the best thing you can do is go to Praxis Skis Facebook Page and look at photo albums of wood veneer for ideas and results.

The thing to consider is first whether you want a busy (e.g., ambrosia) or blank (ash?) veneer pattern, then decide how to overlay a busy or subtle digital print pattern. As previously discussed, high contrast line-based art does well, where as multi-color stuff without much contrast or definition comes out more washed out.

I freaking love how my Screaming Bear looks on my wood veneer (see GPO thread for image).

It has been said before, but I will say it again do not pick bamboo... I absolutely loved how it looks, but it's durability sucks... It scratches easily and apparently is the softest of all veneers... Wish I would have known before ordering it with my Qs...

^^^ this ^^^ and it's not at all busy looking (grain pattern) with either the Ibex top sheet or the Max pattern I had laid on top of it.

I have ambrosia maple -- agree, impressively durable. I picked up a used pair with beech. Looks good so far, but they haven't been through my clumsy wringer yet, so I'll have more to report by the end of the season.

Thanks, I'll go check out the FB page and the top sheet thread.

Screaming bear is my preferred pick so will look for veneer version GPO to check it out.
Common sense. So rare today in America it's almost like having a superpower.

Edit: don't know how I missed the screaming veneer GPO image before this, but those look awesome.

Free veneers isn't mentioned. A man can hope but I wouldn't count on it.

50% off custom orders with free shipping if ordered before end of March. That's what's confirmed at this time and to my knowledge.

They never mentioned them last year, either. Hopefully they will be included again.

In going to predict no free Veneer this year. I think this season was a tough one for Praxis. But for $100~ after discounts it's worth it IMO

Who has skied both the Rx and MVP? Flowing Alpy? How different are they, and what conditions would you use each for? Seems the MVP is still fairly directional, how much more loose is it?

How come you think it’s been a tough year?

When I talked with Keith earlier this season he said they were scrambling a bit to handle everything after he had to lay some workers off. We didn't get in depth about it though. Things might have picked up since then

One day on my new stock 187 GPOs and I’m pretty blown away. They’re mounted with tectons and I’m skiing them with xt130 freetours.

This morning I took them to Kirkwood to get a feel for them. Conditions were very firm with a decently soft surface.

I’d never expect a 116-waisted ski with tech gear to be any kind of fun in hard irregular bumps, skied out bumpy trees and fast/hard groomers but they were. Next time I’d take out my fx94s on a day like today but I wasn’t at all unhappy skiing these. They could charge the groomers but easily make any kind of turn shape in right spaces; super easy to release the tail at any time and make whatever turn shape I wanted. Even easier than my 191 billy goats.

I skied with a gummy and file after hearing all the stories of the praxis tune, but I was stoked on them the way they were. The uber sharp edges were perfect to rail groomers but didn’t hook up when I didn’t want them to.

Then this afternoon I did a quick 1700’ tour to ski wind/sun protected trees. Top was deep, soft powder, bottom was heavy Sierra cement.

Wow, super intuitive to drift turns to set up for quick tight turns through small spaces. Easy to go really fast with complete confidence that I could break free and shut it down when I needed to.

I got bucked around a lot in the heavier stuff but I can’t really picture a sub 9-lb ski that wouldn’t. Didn’t experience any tip dive, though I was really staying neutral given the depth and heaviness of the snow.

These skis so far are what I was generally expecting, just better than I thought was possible.

I guess if I was nitpicking, I wish the skis were a little damper, but I just don’t know if that’s realistic for a ski at this weight.

Can’t wait to ski these in more consistent good snow.

My pair from fleaBay's 15% off just arrived. Heavy core with carbon. I will get one day on them tomorrow and post up some first impressions. I enjoy fondling them, if that counts for anything.

It IS realistic. Just get veneer topsheet next time. That shit settles the ski so much - and makes it 0.3 lbs lighter! Mine are lighter than normal due to 3 flex, and they are still crazy damp. See my review in the GPO thread.

    The wood veneer constellation ones?
I almost pulled the trigger on them. Glad you got them and super interested in what you think of them.
