What were they charging over the weekend?

$95. Which isn't terrible, but it just doesn't feel right when you're standing in line at the 3 chair and the brand new high speed six is sitting idle 50 feet away. I get it's new and they had an electrical problem, but then don't up the price.

I think it's going to back-fire some. I can get a KW ticket online for saturday for $97. For most Bay Area and Stanislaus/San Joaquin County folks, KW isn't that much further than BV for a lot more mountain.

I hate to even complain because I know it's a tough biz, but just up the ticket a few bucks every day. Don't make me feel like I'm getting screwed because I skied on a weekend.

Mike: You will be happy to know I dropped into the BV ski shop and picked up a helmet. The patroller horror stories you told me convinced me. I'm now a proud owner of a Smith Vantage. Great helmet. Didn't even notice it was on!

Taking a day off. There is a foot of rapidly melting snow on the ground and it’s 50 degrees and sunny and I’m working outside in shorts and T-shirt and snow boots.

DR had issues over the weekend too. Saturday morning our road did not get plowed by the county so we had to close it because we couldn’t get in and out. That backed up traffic for miles. And it was a difficult morning for snow removal in parking lots, walkways, buildings, and chairlifts. It was a great ski day.

It’s tough business to reopen a ski area when people have started thinking about tennis and boats, and employees are smoking brandy and drinking cigars in forced retirement. Sunday was really good, given all that, except for maybe the ramp clusterbleep on top of 3 . . . But nice snow in the trees makes up for a lot.

DR FB comments were brutal about the opening. I don't know where they think Sally is going to find a bunch of people on the 108 corridor that already probably found other employment to just drop everything to open a ski resort. One clown even thought it was a ploy to not have to refund the season pass $. People are something else. Buy an Epic Pass and GTFO of our little resort if you don't like it. It's a small, local ski hill ferschristsakes!

Mikey B: passing along Kudos to Dodge Ridge Ski Patrol for taking good care of a friend of a friend involved in a scary collision over the weekend. Fortunately, she was cleared of major injury.

My wife kicked a shoe on Saturday near the bottom of Corkscrew. She was skiing like it was 1969. Looked for it for an hour. She skied down on one ski and borrowed another pair. When I saw her she was heading up to the top but I insisted we go look for it one more time. She found it. FKNA

Yeah so I’ve got her skis in the shop to check toe height, etc. and get her a tune.

DIN too low, toe height too high and not enough forward pressure. New boots.

Agreed. There are times when the storms are cold and low and the home hill delivers. Yesterday was awesome. I'm always amazed out how long it takes for Dodge to get tracked out. BV is tracked out by 11 on a pow day. I was still finding tons of untracked at the end of the day yesterday.

Edit to add: Forgot my ski pants yesterday. Was lucky enough to have put my long johns on though. Thought about going to the ski shop and snagging some proper ski pants, but then figured, if jeans are good enough for Iceman... And it wasn't bad at all really. Felt all old school!

Crazy forecast. 2-4” rain down low and 2’-4’ up high. Next few days could be....interesting....

Concerned about base area snow. Grizz could get flushed clean.

I spent the day waiting at the Spur with a couple from Santa Cruz that started driving to Dodge, from there went to Bear. They hadn’t heard about the Spur.
    Eventually gave up and left.
The Spur opened at 7am. Wind pack, sinking a couple to a few inches.

Was the top setting up hard when you skied it? Or did it have a few inches of fluff? Just arrived and hard to tell from the walk through the yard.

Did a great snow survey tour out of DR today with some buddies from Hetch Hetchy. 12 mile adventure tour to do Gianelli, Bell and Aspen surveys.

It’s a fun seasonal thing for me on top of patrolling at DR. I get to go on a few more day trips plus a 4 day at the end of the month.

    SCIENCE!
