Good call on the T6. I have the NA version of my '08 XC70. It's been a phenomenally reliable car (about 150K now) and these seats are to die for, but man is it one slow pig. It was a tough pill to swallow to go from a a CTS-V to a slow wagon, but for the mountains, it was the right choice to make. If I were to do it all over again, I'd definitely hold out for a T6 version.

Anybody have any intel on the little Volvo C30? Now that I'll be living in the big city, I'm getting ready to swap out the ol' Trailblazer for something small and peppy...with a stick (non-negotiable). Always thought the C30 looked like a fun, quirky looking little car. I'm seeing old Polestar editions with a stick for quasi-reasonable prices out there. I just don't know really anything about the car at all. They're pretty rare from what I gather.

Not "real" drive time by the standards of this and the car porn threads, but ~3000 mi of in-town driving and one MTB road trip. So far I really like it -- I'd call it well-rounded, and more comfortable than sporty relative to some of the euro gnar wagons discussed in recent posts. It's really slick looking, I absolutely love the interior, and it's fast enough for me. For reference, previous car was a MT Outback XT. Do you have any more specific questions?

I think the non-CC looks nicer if you don't need the extra clearance to slay the Whole Foods parking lot potholes, but a deal on that one is less likely to pop up

    Wagon Stoke

I’ve only driven this C30 on test drives but it’s a fun car. Very close to the V50 T5 I recently sold. My only issue is front wheel drive only. Very comfortable if you want something small. Last production year 2013?

From the Ford era. The platform is shared between the Focus, the Mazda3 and the Volvo C30/S40/V50. They are nice cars, more refined than the aforementioned the Ford or Mazda. I don't think they have any major issues.

Good to hear it’s still rolling at 175k. I’m looking for one in the 80-110k-ish range. I drive maybe 3k miles a year, so don’t need something newer or in any better condition than that.

My wife has a non-turbo 2012 XC90 that is similarly slow but reliable. T6 is a necessity. Amazingly the XC70 is wider than the XC90 of that era. Need something for light mountain driving that also fits 3 kids under 5 in the back seat. The extra couple inches of hip width in the back makes a difference.

Cool! FWD isn't an issue for me since it would be for daily city driving. Still clinging to my XC70 for the occasional jaunt to the mountains and general long distance driving...man is that thing comfy. Volvo's interior quality makes just about everything else out there feel so sub-par. Haha.

Very nice. I had a Mazda 3 hatch years ago and really, really liked its driving dynamics (for a FWD car that is). Throw some sticky rubber on there and the thing's a hoot around town. Wasn't fast by any means, but fun to drive with the MT. I'd gladly buy a Volvo on that platform. I remember when the 3 came out, hearing something about the shared platform, but didn't know which specific models it carried over to.

Yes. Much better looking. I'm kinda waiting to see if/when they do a new GTS, and any other reason I can use to keep myself from buying the latest shiny new thing that I totally don't need.

What year is yours, Suit? Like 2011-2012 or so? I remember when you got it. Or is this a second one maybe?

edit: Clearly I do not have a good grasp of the details of Suit's car ownership.

I've had ~2 dozen cars and the C30 is one of the very few that I miss and the only fwd car I'd consider buying again. It was comfy as could be, more than quick enough to take care of itself, had enough room inside to be useful for family duty and was a pleasure on road trips. I should emphasize comfy again, that drivers seat was amazing and when I got t-boned by a stop sign runner right on the drivers side B Pillar that little car took it like a champ and I walked away without a scratch.

Great review! I'll definitely have to add it to my shortlist, then. Sounds like just about the perfect compact. Super stiff riding hot hatches don't appeal to me as much these days, and I don't need the fastest car on the road, but I still want small and nimble and not some crappy tin can. The little C30 checks a lot of boxes for me.

Reading old reviews, seems that people mostly dinged them for basically not being an STI, VW R, or other racey hatch. Those reviews really seemed to come off to me as unfair comparisons. Kind of apples to oranges. Seems that if I take it for what it's strengths are...doing some of the things Volvo does best that is, I might be pretty satisfied.

Crazy how well you fared in that collision! Gotta love Volvo! Definitely one of their strongsuits. Good quality to have when it comes to running around in a compact car in an urban landscape increasingly dominated by SUVs. Absolutely baffles me as to why so people here in the big city want to drive a large SUV. This place is just teeming with Tahoes and such. Screw that. I'm ditching mine as soon as I can. Was truly perfect for rural Montana, but it's going to be teh suck (and pointless) in the urban jungle.

No rs6 tonight, but maybe tomorrow. Looks like this one is overdue for the 35k service. Anyone have an aftermarket warranty/service contract they like?

Edit: Oddly enough, it looks like no one wants to offer a service contract on a 15yo rs6... After watching a couple of 4.2 teardown videos, I feel the same! With my luck, I'd write the check and the torque converter would detonate in the first 10 miles and the drc would bottom out while while I was pulling over. Going to pass on this one. If anyone is interested in a very fast, poorly documented RS6 in CO, I'd be happy to introduce you to the seller.

If you want any more details just ask. Yeah anybody comparing it to a car aimed at being a hot hatch is heading in the wrong direction. FWIW it also surprised me how well it did in the snow when I put some Dunlop Wintersports on it. It got in and out of ski area parking lots that a lot of other cars couldn't and with those rear buckets I could get 3 or 4 pairs of skis and 3 or 4 people in it because the skis could go up the center. I used it as a commuter in and out of NYC for 3 years (56 miles each way) and had just as much fun with it on the open road as in tight urban traffic and got ~30mpg most of the time. It was also the easiest car to parallel park ever with that deep drop rear window. If you get one I still have the Thule roof rack fit kit that is specific to the car if you need it.
