Yeah, he would refer to the 930 as the "pinnacle". The earlier cars weren't really fast, and the later cars were "ruined" by modern styling (slant nose, changes to the tail fin), crash bumpers, and smog.

I gotta say, there really is something about the old German cars, Porsches and Bmws in particular, where most of the stuff they made in the 70s-90s really was very good. Well built, nicely balanced, engaging to drive, and actually pretty reliable compared to other makes at the time. Toyota was in the process of beginning world domination with trucks and suvs, but for cars, the Germans had that shit figured out. Then came the cayenne, and the Bmw gt cars? And it was sort of lost. They still make nice stuff, but not like they used to. Old person rant over.

Yeah, I've driven lots of yotas and bimmers, and I will take an early 90s bimmer over a Lexus any day. Was the v8 in the Lexus a great engine, you bet, were the electronics in the Lexus more reliable and cheaper to fix, you bet.

My mom has owned every iteration of the LS since the debut 400 (hers was a ‘90) up until the most recent model (she’s in a 2010 LS460L now) and it forever took my parents out of the German luxo-sled market. Dad persisted with some 540s and a 550, but the combination of age, fit and finish, value and reliability took over. Great great cars, but as discussed, never the same In the farfurgnugen department. Changed the market forever.

They have really screwed the pooch with their new Spindle design language.

2008-2012 LS Are such good sedans for awesome money right now.
