What would possess someone to go through all that hassle?

    Actually a "360 Spider".

Looks exactly like the manual one I had.

A kid I knew in high school had a "fake" MB SL500. It was a horrible conversation and I think it was based on an old Fox body Mustang. It was slow and looked like shit inside and out. The worst part was, his dad bought it for him under the guise it was a real $100k SL500. I never had the hear to tell him it was faker than a porn star's tits.

    This is a true statement.

However, it also has maximum torque at every other motor speed as well.

I'll post this here, since it's so cool. James Dean next to the car he died in, an awesome little car it is, supposedly just a few hours before the incident. Notice the cigarette at the fuel pump.

And, speaking of porn, and, as it relates to this picture, anybody ever see Cronenberg's Crash, or read the book by Ballard it's based on? Sick stuff.

Thanks for the pic, Benny! Two icons in the same pic, right there for certain.

I almost bought a replica of that car last year...light aquamarine, well-done fiberglass body...no top, but had a full-button tonneau cover. Can't remember if the original had a top anyway....I don't think they did. It was a well thought out replica. Modern underpinnings. I'm pretty sure it was Miata-based. $20,000 used OBO. Guy would have probably taken $16,000 cash. I think that particular replica was $35,000 or so new. They are still making them now. I was in the market then for a used Z3 roadster, which I like the lower slung doors than on the Z4.

Those old Porsches are friggin cool. That's apparently the Mobil on Ventura at about 2:00 PM. That's his white '55 Ford wagon there too - note the trailer for the Porsche. Interesting that the wagon appears to have been lost, probably before the woodie collector market took off.

Oh, and, what's up with the '53 caddy? looks nice and clean for being 2-3 years old. makes you wonder if Dean chatted up the owner about it. Maybe with them and not mentioned?

    No....this is NOT my Z3!

This Z3 might be thinking two things:

"What did I EVER do to deserve this?"

    OR

"Yes!!!! Finally rid of those pompous bimmer dorks! Freedom!!!!"

Probably a replica 550, could be wrong, but no Porsche badge on bonnet. You're as likely to see an original 550 as you would an original BMW 507, unless you hang at Pebble Beach during a Concours event.

Replica or not, what an incredibly gorgeous car!

Looking at that pic, I'm kicking my self for the second or tenth time for taking too long to make my decision on that aforementioned aquamarine replica. When I went back, it had sold two days before.

My Mom drive around in a 56 for a few years. Daddy was flush at the time. Black, too, looked very similar. Coolest gas cap. Under the right tail light.

Beck 550 Spyders aren't crazy expensive. $30ish I think for a used one.

    Is this REAL?

Please, PLEEEEEASE let me find one of these in the next barn I explore.

That may take a bit of lead work around the headlight bezels and a few other places. To even get within 20 feet of that 300 with a can of Bondo would be sheer anathema.

I guess it would be difficult to even find an old-style lead worker nowadays. Toxic stuff.

Edit: It's got knock-offs. Hmmmm. Knock-off hubs on what looks like a standard stud and nut wheel? Can't see pic clearly ennough...might be a true knock off rim. Can't see the point. It's not going into the pits. Looks weird. The pie plates on the car below look classier for that model and vintage. Love true knock-offs on wire wheels, though.

Donn McLaren from New Zealand built and raced a spectacular version of the classic Ford Escort Mk1, powered by a 13B Wankel engine unit in Naturally Aspirated form.

Built for Hillclimb and RallySprint events like Ashley Forest RallySprint in this case, the RWD machine here is producing upwards of 250Hp/9.000Rpm to move the light body in sonorous and sideways fashion.
