    Shipping containers?

Trying to figure out the best/easiest way to store and then move my stuff in a few weeks.

I am moving out of my house in 3 weeks to go on a 2 month road trip and then move most likely out to MT. I need my house empty so I can rent it out.

I basically need to store my stuff for 2 months and having it in a shipping container at or near my house and then shipping it out when I need it would be awesome.

A 20' container is pretty cheap, but 2000+ miles of transport is probably expensive as hell no?

Other option is this 15 foot enclosed trailer I can get pretty cheap. My brother is dying for a good reason to haul something west with his big truck and buy some tractor parts on his way back east.

I mean, isn't every Q&A thread on TGR an exercise in narcissistic horn tooting and confirmation bias?

ABF UPack is my preferred DIY moving service. They also provide short term storage but I have no idea if the rates are reasonable.

To the OP, maybe Pods is what you want if bro won't help you out.

Check to make sure that the company delivers to the area you are moving to. I recently moved and only ABF would ship and store a trailer. PODS would not deliver to my new town.

Check with some moving companies, they do exactly that all the time. Likely to be more expensive, but might be worth the hassle free aspect.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

Yeah, pods doesn't serve my destination yet but ABF does. It's like $3500 though.

Trailer needs some work though so just trying to see what would be cheapest. Trailer is enclosed car trailer with ramp. Would probably be easy to sell to sledders or keep and convert into a cool camper someday.

    So yeah, narcissistic horn tooting.

A few years ago my company bought a shipping container (think it was 20ft) and shipped some stuff up to BC from Socal. I think it was around $3k to have it trucked up north. They also had to bring in a crane to load it on the truck. I'm sure there was a better way....

Been toying with this idea as well. Containers can be had for less than cost of a pods (which would be smaller) and I have the land space to put it at destination. It's the freight rates that kill it. I am also thinking about a cargo trailer. I only need a 6x10 or 12 and can get new for right around 2k. Should be an easy sell at destination and I can take my time packing/unpacking.

I say cargo trailer is the cheapest solution in this instance.

Most long haul movers also do storage-in-transit. Benkins, Atlas, etc.
I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

I see containers, especially 20 footers, on flat bed trailers pretty often. Strapped down, doing just fine on the road.

Same here. I thought that was the whole point of shipping containers.

And, if you are still thinking of moving to Bozeman that shipping container might come in handy as affordable housing.

    Lots of answers here.

I bought a single use* 20' shipping container last August for $2400 and had it dropped for $250 (about 60 miles) with a flatbed tow truck. Unit is pristine. I'm in NJ until 2020 and currently have our dart pointed at the greater Reno vicinity. The idea being, we will have our lives pared down into just this container by the time we roll.

Research proved that I can have it hauled anywhere in conus for less than 75cents a mile.

    * "Single Use" is a container used once to ship high end goods and sold at the destination port.

Nice. Most single use I've seen are tough to tell from new. I could use a couple 20s.
