I guess we can always start having poor kids work on farms or no skill manufacturing jobs and take back work form China ? Maybe mix in some forced sterilization for low intellect folks ?
Or we could go in the opposite direction and say "hell with education" and turn our public schools into supervised activity centers for kids. I'm fine either way, let's just not pretend its school.

I also think you are equating poor with low intellect unfairly. I know plenty of stupid rich people.

Or compromise and have supervised work camps for the kids?

Where do I sign my kid up? He could use a bit of a real world ass-kicking right now.

4 year olds should be having lunch at home with mom. 5 year olds go to kindergarten. Parents need to parent and educate for the first 4 years at least.

So school, instead of a learning center, has become a foster care center.
Maybe true, but it probably still is a better learning environment then home. Once you figure how how to get rid of bad parents then we can address some of these school issues. Until then we have to give kids as many chances as possible, and starving them is not a good option.

    Lunch Shaming Children

Our school takes pride in "not lunch shaming"..... yet, when the kids don't have a balance they are only allowed milk and a cheese sandwich.

    1. Now all the kids know that the kids eating the cheese sandwiches don't have money in their account.

    2. My kid loves the cheese sandwich, and will bug the lunch lady to make him one. He then gets teased by the other kids for being "poor". He thinks this is hilarious.

White bread american cheese mayo and some Pringles with a banana or apple all tucked inside a metal GI Joe or Evil Knievel lunch box, milk in the thermos.

That's a great point. Too bad that so many people in our country oppose a living wage, health care, and any social support programs. If it wasn't for the right wing conservatives more people would be able to do what you suggest.

Hmmm. Another solution would be to not have a kid unless you could support it. Choices have consequences. Bad choice. Shitty outcome.

If you believe in equal opportunity, you have to support free meals for poor kids.

    Simple as that

Does anybody actually know how the schools collect for the poor kids that get free lunches?

Just seems like the poor kids should be set up on the gov teat, and fly through the lunch line?

As the article mentioned, it was the parent groups above the free lunch income levels, that they had the most trouble collecting from.

No one should be allowed to have children unless they can afford to give them millions to start being real estate developers.
Without getting the issue of whether or not poor people should be allowed to have children (are there no workhouses?)--sometimes people have kids and then get poor. Somethimes meaning a lot.
GGS--you can expect to be visited at night soon by a ghost in chains.
