    SLC Area Beginner MTB Trails

Mrs Helmet is one year out of brain surgery and my 13 year old daughter is a stone cold beginner. Any recommendations in the SLC/PC/LCC/BCC area for a nice beginner family ride to get them back into the game? They're both athletic and in good shape, but don't want to over do it on the first ride. I was thinking maybe the Albion Basin ride up to Cecret lake might be a good place to start. This will be the wife's first bike ride since surgery.

You can only ride up to the parking lot/campsite. Bike are restricted not too much further than that. The summer road is pretty much your only climbing route, and it'll be dusty and crowded as fuck. The "trail" up from the bottom of the Albion lift is gravelly shit for a while.

Shoreline trail by the Zoo. it has lots of varying terrain to get her warmed up to the idea of hike a bike on steep stuff, single track, double track, dogs, descents, and mellow stuff too. i used to go ride there before school when i was 13 and lived in the area. Come to think of it, you could ride that, stop off at porcupine or big eds or B&D for a shake and burger and head back on the road. i did that a few times with my father when i was younger and loved it.

The new Little Valley TH in Corner Canyon was specifically designed for exactly what you are looking for.

Albion Basin road was a good call. It's wasnt open to car traffic yet so the dust wasn't too bad. We went on a Sunday so it was pretty quiet. Good place for her first ride since surgery. It's funny what things big you after your head is cracked open. We walked up to Cecret lake after so a nice outing. I'm thinking shoreline between the zoo and U Med is a good one too.
