    Those dudes practice at crazy range all the time. Lucky? Maybe, fuck ton of skill of the sniper and his spotter, definitely! Possibly had another spotter closer to target to give accurate reading of wind and such.

    I have a friend who is a retired military cop SWAT sniper guy. He considers himself proficient at "only" 600 yards, but said he's made a few lucky shots at longer distances. 2 miles is quite a shot

    That's at the muzzle. It slows down from there. It doesn't travel that speed all the way to the target. It's a bullet, not a perpetual motion machine.

    I get that, but 10 seconds would mean and average speed of 345 m/s, so impact would have been far less than that with a starting velocity of 805. I'd question the stopping power at that point.

    Assuming a linear deceleration, minimum average speed possible is only half of muzzle velocity. Something doesn't make sense here. And for reference, speed of sound is 340 m/s at sea level.

    A really massive bullet travelling slowly can still have a large impact/penetration due to increased KE, relative to smaller loads.

    Think of a tank moving at 5 km/h vs. a moped moving at 5 km/h.

    Which is going to do more damage?
