Once is like a 40 foot wide halfpipe, unbelievable. I've never seen it this wide.

Also have never seen Big Blue so high ... must be just inches shy of its legal limit? All the beaches are underwater right now!

Another successful weekend in the books. Did not even occur to me that I would score some "Pow Pow" on Saturday. Even if it was only a few inches it rode very well, soft servable bliss...isolated to a few aspects, unexpected, and totally surprised. Enjoyed a multi-sport day on Saturday and took the little man out for magic carpet rides on Sunday. Skied a couple afternoon laps too.

MAKE TAHOE DEEP AGAIN ~ 2016/17 OFISHUL SNOW/FOOD/WHINE & STOKE THREAD

^^^ I wanted to get up for Saturday in hopes in finding some pow in select spots. Life and winds and surf kept me on the coast. Glad to hear someone found some.

But they will keep northstar open until the following weekend because clearly it is a much better resort to ski come spring.

Anyone know what was going on yesterday near Kirkwood?

Around 3;30 ish I was driving over one of the little road summits near Kirkwood. To the east of Kirkwood. There were Search and Rescue, Ambulance, police... someone get hurt badly? Avalanche? Just curious..

Did the lake run again today and it was magical. I lost a pole but the snow was great, weather was great, and overall it was an amazing day.

Also, I think part of the issue may have been an unexpected late season management personnel event.

We'll see what happens this year. Already, I think ABC has run as many days this season as it has since the merger, so that bodes well.

Not sure why you think a morning uphill opening would make financial sense?
I defer to your knowledge of how alpine works. You've skied there more consistently than I have over the years. I did kind of forget about those pesky runouts.

As far as financially, I was thinking they could staff with just a few people plus minimal patrol. No services..."uphill for the weirdos" kind of thing. Haha.

All operations has been generally better since "the email." ABC is key. It was dismal before that.

The last day of the season at Alpine was a pow day. Yes, the runouts had been slushy and problematic at the very very bottom right by the gates but if they were still separate from Squaw they wouldn't have had any problem at all staying open another month.

Technically the maximum legal limit is 6229.1' and its currently at 6227.26'. So still about 22 inches to go! Its definitely going to fully fill though. Pretty rare to see the lake go from below the rim to max in one season though. Didn't even happen in '10-'11.

Lake levels since the start of the water year in October. Add 6220' for the actual elevation, and the rim is at 6223' (or 3.0 on the graph):

^ dang, I can't imagine what the place looks like at 6229, I guess we will find out in a few weeks huh? Possibly sooner if the storm door stays open w/ high elevation snow levels ...

I was wondering about the corn cycle. I rolled into KW around 10:30, so I figured I was too late for a skin. Put on resort gear and started to lap 6. Around #5 I decided to hit the Pali boundary and it was quite good. So I head back toward west shore. Took three laps back there between noon and 3:30, and they were all excellent. Some aspects did not even soften up. I even skied a new to me line that splits right off west shore proper. Steeeeep.

Anyone want to head out to AK Face (looks more like a Mavs wave right now) or the silver lake chute tomorrow? Both look super fat right now.

Sorry no pics. Was having too much fun skiing and hiking.

Goddamn I've seen dirt forest roads in better condition than 88 is right now. Lots of dodging and weaving going on to avoid suspension damage.

^ It's actually so much BETTER than it was 2 weeks ago, since they've at least put new surface on a few sections or graded down below the potholes in other sections. The road to the KW Tower lot is even more entertaining to watch low clearance vehicles with no limited slip and limited tire tread, definitely much worse than Forest Service backroads.

Here's what a guy in England did to encourage pothole repair a couple of years ago. This strategy would, literally, make 88 a road full of dicks.

Alpine should bring back the 99$ spring pass.

It was an awesome deal and put a lot of people on the mountain in the spring..

Sadly I don't think KSL is really interested in maximizing Alpine's revenue or reputation, at the expense of the Worlds greatest Designation Resort, Squallywood!

The corn window wasn't open in time to make it to work mid morning so pulled the plug halfway up. Warm and cloudy now

Tahoe Grizzlies deep with talent. Two teams take home State Championship titles. This made all the driving and lack of skiing worth it.
