Oh, hey, you get 5 free days at that shitty resort in China!
Bronze is a bit more, but now is strictly a midweek pass the whole season, with the usual blackouts. I'm able to without Saturdays during Jan and Feb, but gonna have to fork over an extra $160 so I can get out on Sundays (which this season have often been less crowded than Fridays), and even Saturdays early and late season. I have a feeling lots of others will be doing the same, so don't see it putting a dent in weekend skier numbers.

KW was absolutely empty today. If you strayed a few yards off the few runs they had groomed (another Vail cut back it seems) you could have lunch for a half hour and see maybe three people go by.

Down in the valley it barely did. Doubt it did up top. Still, the snow felt faster today. Cloud cover seemed to help a lot. Not enough help for when my kid launched a berm and landed in many that stopped his skis dead and threw him over the handlebars. Best wipeout of the year for him.

Blame me. I asked for less grooming on their survey. More fun with bumps. You're welcome.

KW has never had a too much grooming problem. Even when there were 5 off 6, the nose runs off 11, the Wall and Headwaters, and more than a single run off 4, 95% of the terrain was still ungroomed.

Come spring conditions, I used to enjoy railing hot laps on 6 until things softened.

For me, the bigger issue is the false marketing. Vail's company magazine claims that since Vail purchased the place they have vastly expanded grooming.

Casey, follow the shade. Things cooked quickly on Thursday. My son and I looked into Thunder Saddle around noon. He decided against it and started back toward 4 before chatting with me through knee high mank. Not an easy task at 40#. We ended up skiing off 11 and 6 the rest of the day to stay in the shade.

KW patrol said they are down to three, sometimes four, working cats.
Another example of Vail shunning KW.

Kirkwood currently has the highest grooming score of any Vail resort based on customer survey results

We don't have to worry about those hot laps anyways when they're closing April with 20' of base

I have a new job so I have to work pretty much every day.

I like the money but am reduced to looking a Ski area Web Cams.

One that note look how busy Mt Rose is today.

I did manage a few hours @ Sugar Bowl last Thursday. At 2 pm the snow was baked, leg killing groomers and run outs.
    But soo much snow.

That is because we start with such a low standard compared to a typical Vail skier. Vail can't seem to get many of their own out here to notice it much.

Actually, I've always found the grooming at KW to be pretty good. Sometime they have gone out to early in spring and left is poor.

But for Saturday they groomed nothing off 6. The old KW would have down 3-5 runs with this deep of pack, a hard freeze and full spring conditions.

The would have also hit Chair 10 line and likely Headwaters. I recall lines down Eagle, but hat was a while ago. Along with a few more off 11 toward the nose.

Instead they had 2 runs down 11, so everyone headed to sunny chair 4. Where the line was about 30 minutes.

Off piste if pretty good in the sun tho.

Wow that is crazy that Kirkwood didn't groom anything off 6 for Saturday, especially in these conditions. Maybe Vail saw what KSL is doing this season and thought they were trying too hard . Either way that is disappointing.

I tried to learn to ski ice moguls in the mid-80's on zach's at kirkwood. The grooming started for those coming off chair 5.

Thanks for calling Kirkwood. "High angle grooming' off chair ten. The Wall".

Maybe snow not settled enough to winch a cat?

After talking with some staff, it sounds like KW does only have two fully operational cats, with a third limping along. Sounds more like poor maintenance more than anything.

I was also told the resort is planning on staying 100% open until the 16th. But they are thinking of keeping the front open for a few weekends. But there was a big maybe with this statement.

I did notice they stopped making a groomers choice of the day on their FB feed.

Mountain skied well. A good freeze and light breeze kept things from softening too quickly. My son had his biggest day ever at 15k. And this with a bum knee that kept him out of ski school. Wondering if he was faking it knowing I had a bag full of gummi bears. At least I made him work for them.

    I dunno. I've had warmer.
Stuff at Alpine seemed more wintery than we expected.
Pallisades was a fukin crustfest when we hit it. Apparently better at end of day - goodbye to all that now clocks have changed [emoji58]
Under Scott was smoove bumps, and popular.
Nowhere near the Cluster we expected, peeple wise.
