The Truckee PD et al could get off their asses and do traffice management on busy days. Their needs to be a coordinated traffic management plan in the area enforced by LE. Signs at popular detours on Google and Waze etc to tell people that this is not a through road etc (there is a sign like that on High St in Truckee, guess it doesn't stop people from trying). But basically when everyone feels like they have to get ahead of everyone else it just makes things worse for everyone and theyre's not much you can do to keep a lot of people from thinking that way. I've done it myself on Old 40 to Cisco, and then I bitch about people who take DPR past Donner Lk, so I guess that makes me a hypocrit. (There is a special place in hell for people who cut through the Tahoe DAve's parking lot at 89/SV Rd. The hell consists of 3 feet of fresh blower and all the lifts on permanent hold. Also known as SVUSA.)

I would have loved to see people's reactions turning in expecting to see a road and instead finding this...

Is that really PD's job? Agree something should be done by someone, not sure what, and grateful my schedule very rarely coincides with the shitshow, even though I often have a front row seat to see parts of it unfold. Really don't think there is a solution when the entire bay area decides to travel to the same place at the same time on two roads with limited capacity subject to the worst weather in the country. Can't complain about people using 40, it is a highway. But people cutting through the Dave's lot, especially those coming from TC, deserve a swift kick in the nuts.

I can't decide who is dumber the people who try and take Dog Valley road or the app makers who would include a dirt road as a detour. Someone needs to kick them directly in the nuts.

The stupid in Tahoe has reached levels I haven't seen in ever, pretty sure the app would be a hit.

One bright spot though, just saw a pack of women World Cup skiers out for jog a few minutes ago, some of those skier chicks are GTG.

You guys act like phone apps sending people on dog valley road is a bad thing.

We need MORE apps like that. FS 06? Hell yeah. Not many people know this but there's a secret way into tahoe city called the fiberboard. It's a freeway for cryin out loud. We need apps to help people discover all these viable alternatives when it's absolutely puking outside.

I've actually had a pretty good time throttling people in the windshield with my snowblower when they're driving way too fast in my neighborhood. I've also stacked up some of the best speedbumps around the lake. If only I could get an equivalent going during 4th of july. Of course I actually do use the fiberboard to get from tahoe city to brockway then....... Low clearance suby? Follow me! Those things can go anywhere.

This is exactly how I felt when I heard the story. Getting so cynical... I definitely need a shoulder season.

Got out at the crack of noon today, sure the snow was much better early, was a bit on the dense side but still fun today.

Oh I've skiied there quite a bit, used to train there back in the day. We spent our fair share of time lapping the face, hitting quail, jumping off the Ellis Chair, and generally causing mayhem. I mean, in all fairness its not as flat as Northstar at least.

Jumping off Ellis onto that sweet rock? You can start your turn in the air.

I'm going to tell a story. Maybe too long of a story.

Back in high school (not too long ago by most of your standards, but long ago enough), we used to train for ski team at Homewood. Naturally when you get a bunch of young dumb ski racers together, they tend to make bad decisions on the hill because they are fast and made of rubber. We thought we could get away with anything.

So, riding up the Ellis chair one day, we got to the part thats kind of low to the ground (the part where it says "do not jump, ski patrol is watching, etc"), and collectively decided that we were going to jump off on our last run. Word spread throughout the day, and at 3:20 (had to be at the bus by 3:30), there were about 10 of us all loading Ellis Chair in a row. We knew we were fully committed because we wouldn't have time to ride that old slow piece of shit lift to the top anyway.

I was on the first chair, and since it was my idea I had to jump first. It worked out pretty well, I managed the mid-air turn, hip-checked, and then rode away. My buddy followed suit, and then one by one the rest of the team followed, plopping down into the snow while the chairlift bounced and swung wildly. Most of the lines were pretty decent, with a few clean stomps and ride-aways in the mix.

As with any ski team, most of the stupidity stems from the males, but it seems like there is always at least one chick who tags along. Generally they are pretty burly, act almost like they want to prove something or wish they were one of the guys, but you love having them along. Our token gal was named Anna. She was surprisingly pretty and often feminine for a ski racer, but had legs like tree trunks and an ass that could probably have cracked walnuts. At that time she was probably fresh out of her last concussion (sustained a few weeks earlier when going much too big on Homewood's enormous and poorly built terrain park jumps), but thats another story.

As the chairs sequentially emptied themselves of their ski racer occupants, each team member skiing down into the trees to watch with huge grins on our faces, there was one person left to jump: Anna. We all watched as she teetered on the edge, contemplating the jump, but hesitating as she passed our bomb holes . Finally the chair reached its lowest point, and began to gain height again -this was it, now or never. As that realization set in, she frantically hopped off the rising chair. No mid-air turn, no swing, no brace for impact. She just plopped straight off with a slight forward angle, almost matching that of the hill slope she was about to meet.

I still remember the shriek she let out as she jumped. It was shrill and dainty, but quickly muffled as soon as her mouth impacted snow. Her skis provided little resistance, as they both immediately ejected, leaving her face down in her own bomb hole. It was like a magnificent 20 foot belly flop to softened mid-winter slush. I still have no idea how she survived unscathed.

Since we were worried about the time and getting busted, we hustled up to her laughing. She sat up and we realized she was fine (no having to explain her dazed state or injuries to the coaches today -phew), and our laughter intensified. She slapped on her sticks and we all bombed down to the south base with no ski patrol sightings, making it to the bus just a couple minutes late ("Sorry coach, we got stuck on that damn Ellis lift. You know how slow it is..."). Fun times.

Pitch isn't everything. Some of the best days I've ever had were storm skiing pow in the trees bell to bell on the backside and lookout mountain practically by myself.

One of those times I had to drag a Squaw-only friend there practically against his will and he ended up calling it his best day of the season.

Northstar sucks. It's flat, boring, lifts are always on windhold and it gets no snow. Ski Squaw instead. I hear this season it didn't get tracked out till days after the storm and Silverado was untouched for months.

Looks like we're actually at the beginning of a corn cycle, almost forgot what those are like...

    Wow, FKNA.....beautiful picture TahoeBC
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

Quite variable today, but a great way to start my weekend. Plenty of sun. Super fun exploring a zone I don't get to ski very often...

What a time to be alive! Squaw feels like a video game and lines you've looked at for years are gone or easy hits suddenly.
