    A question of etiquette

As you approach the government office (or bank...) from the south you notice a guy in a wheelchair approaching from the north, you're going to get to the door 5-6 steps ahead of him but you open the door for him regardless. As you hold the door 2 other people walk in behind the chair. Do you walk in and step in front of the chair in the line up? Behind the chair? Back of the line?

I just watched this happen at the door across the street from from my office.

You are a gentleman and hold the door for all of them. Why is this even a question?

You still (have to) go to an actual building for govt and banking services?

OK, banking perhaps, but govt? With the recent snow conditions in your neck of the woods? Vibes...

If they tipped you, go to the back of the line. If not, take cuts.

It wasn't me, I just watched it happen. Door holder was about 60 male, chair guy mid 30s, one early 20s male, 50ish female.

Who's clearly wrong here is the 20 y old male. He should have stepped aside and offered to hold the door for the 60 y holding the door before entering the building.

The whole point of being the bigger person is to be the bigger person.

Sure, it'd be nice if they acknowledged your effort, but expecting it is probably killing the karma points

If you let anyone in, you are tacitly giving them your place in the upcoming line. Don't do nice things if you don't want the cost associated with doing nice things.

All I know is you walk up to double doors, try to open the one that has the lock on it, they have to unlock that side to get in. Someone pointed this out to me recently after I've spent a lifetime trying the wrong door first.

    So there's that.

Being Canadian I would stay behind the 3. Karma will reward you in other ways.
I always give way to the elderly and disabled (hate that word). It's the right thing to do because "we are the true north strong and free" and fuck it we are good people.....eh

i was taught to be a gentleman and hold the door, first for ladies, but for everybody, of course. just wanted to clarify i don't let the door slam on anybody. plus, it keeps everybody in front of me where i can keep my eye on them!

also, the favor is frequently returned immediately if there is a second set of doors. not that it matters.
