just saying 90mph is just a tad under F2 on the tornado scale, so....a good microburst in the right place could easily have started a chain reaction down line.
Crazy either way...
Surprised there wasn't a lot more wide spread damage. I think the idea that this was a tornado makes a lot of sense, although I don't recall too many tornados occurring in cold weather. I assume there are no signs of sabotage? Teton Village is a pretty unlikely sabotage target, but who knows these days.
I think the sleet and freezing rain had built up enough on those lines that the added weight played a big role here. This is going to take a while to fix. My mom is stuck in her house without heat, or electricity, and with a too heavy garage door and uncleared roads even if she got out. I am sure there are a lot in her situation.

Well shit.... We are coming in Sunday with two adults and two teens (fathers/sons trip) and have 5 day passes to JHR starting on Monday. We are all east coasters skiing JH for the first time. We are going to be staying at a condo over at Snow King. Any word if they have power? I don't have the info to call, the other dad set up this trip. I am thinking that this might be "blessing in disguise" and that there's a chance we could be there the day the mtn opens after being shut down for a while?? Whatever day that is. Already talking about driving to Targhee if JH isn't open Monday.

Snow King is 100% open, full power.

This area of the Village road is know as the Windy Mile.
It's the only good passing zone on HWY 390. The speed limit is also 55 MPH. Man, in the past I've driven to the Village with some real hot heads. In the nineties it was guys with Beemers who had to be to the skiing right now. Even better was watching skids find stealth parking spots- they're so rare now. Still- it's funny to watch people drive like maniacs on a powder day- some things never change. Start Bus is far more enjoyable.
This section of road is so windy that one time I rode to town with a co-worker - on a day when the road was about to be closed - in a old Honda Civic and we were driving under the drifts forming across the road.
Taken from Start Bus windshield ~11:20 AM:

Latest from the resort is earliest targeted opening is Monday.
Last night in the village was almost like a hurricane party with some over-served guests.
Sounds like there may be a nice J-hole baby boom on the horizon, say about 9 months from now. Gentlemen, might be a good time to think about setting aside a little paternity test fund.

UPDATE: – February 8, 2017 2:30 PM After receiving updates throughout the day from Lower Valley Energy and assessing resources in Teton Village, JHMR is unable to re-open for the weekend, and the earliest targeted open date at this time is Monday, February 13th.
Safety is the first concern, and JHMR is asking for only specific operational staff to come to Teton Village through the weekend. There is also the request for no unnecessary travel to Teton Village through the weekend as another winter storm approaches. Currently Lower Valley Energy has crews working around the clock to reconstruct the power poles.
JHMR would like to remind locals that there is no uphill travel at this time, and JHMR is seriously enforcing this policy and asks everyone to stay off the mountain during this incident.
The Ticket Office will not open today for refunds, guests are asked to keep tickets and refunds will be managed as soon as possible.
JHMR will continue to update with information as it is available on jacksonhole.com and on social media channels.
Airline partners, United Airlines, Delta and American Airlines, due to winter weather impacts, they are issuing travel wavers for customers in Jackson Hole. Please contact your airline for details.
Having lived in Arkansas for a few years with 2 tornadoes coming within a mile of my house I can say that doesn't look ANYTHING like tornado damage that I have seen, given the undisturbed snow.
100 year old oaks snapped like toothpicks and ground carnage galore, that's what tornadoes look like. At least the big ones.
Parvo... all since the power failure? Schwing

Si, si. After I posted that I was looking at the pictures more and noticed that, as well as the structures right next to the busted power line towers. Maybe though there was a location where that's not the case and they fell like domino's. Or more likely, as mentioned there was a structural weakness somewhere and gnarly Wyoming wind did the job.
