^ oh, those are different from what I saw and my buddy's GoBro as well. I'm talking about a 2' across, 200' wide glide crack perpendicular to fall line that you can literally fall into.

Also, meter man is the only one defending the values of TGR here - the rest of you have gotten soft! No powder references to the kind of lines you can rip, off a hooker's ass at the Bunny Ranch?!?? You wanna find the REAL Heavenly, that's where you go

Certainly makes sense. The amount of settling around trees has been huge with noticeable gaps on the downhill side. the snowpack is alive. also all the creeks in the area have been flowing at a good clip throughout even the coldest parts of januburied.

Also is the Fire Break back country gate worth checking out?
    If you:

    1. Have to ask, and

    2. Chose heavenly to "shred the gnar", perhaps you should not go through any backcountry gates.

FYI, you can get into some stuff in Killebrew if you don't know where you're going or what you're doing.

Variable is the word of the day.

Windboard, breakable windcrust, old avy chunder, soft cold pow, hot pow, ice, surface hoar, sticky wet, mashed potatoes. We experienced it all in a matter of a few hours.

MAKE TAHOE DEEP AGAIN ~ 2016/17 OFISHUL SNOW/FOOD/WHINE & STOKE THREAD

I have seen and experienced the thing that powdork points out, which were big crowns (like 5-9 feet when the slide occurred) where there has been filled in me we're kinda funky. Different time and different place.

Schralp, were the glide cracks over granite slabs?

Lots of those big cracks in Wagon Wheel bowl...from the cornice weight (usually there every year off the top) but also where the slope begins to mellow out below the Funnel. You know, because that massive storm buried cliffs.

Hopefully resorts will still be open May 11-12 because the Amgen Tour of California Women's race is scheduled for around Tahoe and over Luther Pass those days--Amgen Tour events have been a reliable predictor of snow in past years.

Haha, I've seen the videos you post.... so that is a false statement. And I snowboard now. Your making me want to dust off the ol' ski boots and show you proper form.

More palatable? No such thing! Yes they are great pants for $80 I'd say. Of course looks > tech though.

Look, I'm not trying to start (interwebz) shit, but your point(s) have been made. Many times. I thought we were all just here to share some stoke, beta, and enjoy the snow we receive.

You're thinking of the Squaw/Alpine Facebook page. Which is censored. TGR isn't owned by KSL Capital Partners.

I think we need to have a ski / board off where the winner takes home the matching jacket / pants.

Based on how those pants look I think that might be more of a punishment than a prize

The loser has to wear the outfit for an entire ski week. I've got the matching jacket!

I like it - I confused who had the jacket based on kungpow's comment but it's still a good idea.

On the "snow creep" mini crevasse note, this was posted up on SAC. I'd probably recommend not stopping right on top of an obvious sinking indentation in the snow to begin with. That must have been a startling moment, tho...

    1. Unfortunately I have to ask because I am from the East Coast and don't make it out west very often. You guys have no idea how lucky you are out on the West Coast.

    2. Chose Heavenly because again I am from the East Coast and not an expert on the terrain each mountain has out west. Also not everyone in my crew is an expert skiier and I want them to be able to enjoy the weekend as well.

Thanks for the FYI. As long as we don't hop under the boundary ropes in Killebrew we should be fine though right? Anyone hitting that with me will be able to handle most anything. I am more concerned with ending up somewhere where we need to hike a mile or more to get back to a chair.

    1. Yes, they do know. in most instances these are people not very different from you and i except they gave up careers, they gave up big cities with well paying jobs, to do and be close to what they love. they've paid a high price for the knowledge they have.

    2. Quietly read and learn and shut the fuck up. And BTW, you are not nearly as "expert" as you think. That I can promise you. There is some very heavy talent in this thread.

    just a couple of suggestions.

And keep it real - you will be waking up late with a hangover most days. Right?
If it was me, I would explore Killibrew (skiers right boundary) and Motts. Maybe take easy hike to top of Milky Way Bowl first.
Check out zone that feeds to North Bowl lift.
Ride up Olympic lift, and out of Firebreak Gate.
    >You are now "out of bounds" you dang fool!! (like Tuckermans?).<
Ski down to Casino's/Gondola. Should be enough snow.
Watch out for kids sledding as you exit.
    Awesome! Thanks for the help!

Paging AlpineZone Greg. AZ Greg to the white courtesy phone...

For OP: ski resorts in Tahoe generally get tracked out really quickly. Particularly on weekends, new snow turns to bump runs by noon, if not sooner. While I haven't skied at Heavenly in decades, it's not the kind of place where you're going to find a secret powder stash inbounds. That's why people gravitate towards backcountry, of which there are many options. If you really want to hit untracked, you probably want to look at cat ski options, limited as they are.

Heavenly and South Lake are great places for a bachelor party. Enjoy your time with the groom-to-be, hit the casinos with reckless abandon, and poke around at the Heave to find something your crew likes skiing. I'm not sure if they offer it, but many resorts around Tahoe provide free or cheap group "tours" (not really lessons) that will show you around the mountain so you're not just flailing around. If you really want to get rad, a group lesson (call ahead to let them know what you want to ski) might not be a bad idea.

Actually, being Heavenly, it sometimes feels like that anyway...some longish flats between lifts.
Hafta traverse out of Killibrew, to Mott lift. Avoid Galaxy lift (trees). Unless you want to eat a leisurely lunch.
    Don't duck Killi ropes.
But if you do follow tracks to Kingsbury Grade & hitch back (a bloody hassle).
Post up Stripper pics & all will be good.

    1. Solid point. Always was a dream of mine to do that but I never had the nuts.

2a. It is easier to find the answers I am looking for if I simply ask. Also I like to thank people for taking the time to help me out or even give me some witty response, so that's the only reason I have not shut the fuck up.

2b. I am well aware that I am not even in the same league as most of the people on this thread. That is the reason why I asked my question here. I figure any small nugget of information anyone was nice enough to give me would be pure gold since most, if not all of you are head and shoulders above my talent.

Anyway thanks all for the advice and responses.

Okay okay okay. I already gave you some choice advice about Gunbarrel. And a link to the trail map. AND the stripper hook-up. (No thanks for that?! WTF kinda bachelor party is this? They have dudes too ya know.)

But, I'm willing to give you a second chance and some secret beta for easy sidecountry in and near Heavenly that is pretty much guaranteed to have some blower pow, due to elevation, aspect, and big very widely spaced red firs. For obvious reasons, I don't want to spray that info all over this public forum, especially to a JONG who has not contributed anything to our community - no stoke, no beta for your local area, no offers to sleep with your sister when we come to NYC or wherever to visit, no super gear sales -- just "feed me your secret stashes guys, please!" But, I'm a nice person (I'm from the Midwest - it's part of our character) who still hasn't lost my Midwestern willingness to please, so I'm willing to overlook all of that. Just post up some naked pics of your girlfriend or your wife's tits, and I'll send you some solid choices and recommendations.

    Welcome!

Heavenly is massive...to get the most out of it...explore both Cali and Nevada top to bottom. You'll get views of the lake on the Cali side and expansive desert views on the Nevada side. Killebrew Gate B skiing in the direction of Gate A is probably only the real 'extreme' terrain where you could fall off a cliff etc. Otherwise Mott Canyon is short, steep and sweet..but probably a ton of moguls. If insanely crowded I'd stay near the Mott/Killebrew area which can also be accessed by taking laps via Dipper. Olympic chair is a great early morning groomer chair before the crowds come. Be prepared for some flat spots traversing the mountain...so if you have boarder friends...keep that in mind.

    See how nice I am?
