Got woken up by the wind and stuck my head out the door. It dumped Galena last night. Maybe a foot of new snow judging from what's on the car this morning.

In the last 36 hrs this place has gone from flooding of biblical porportions to dumping. Just noticed a blizzard warning has been issued for the greater Lake Tahoe area until 10:00 a.m. Wednesday with winds up to 100 mph. As such, Rose will not open again today, 3rd day in a row. Bummer. Thought about making a run for Mammoth, but 395 is closed South of Bridgeport. I think i'm going back to bed.

Dr. Orr scoped my knee last year (complex tear on the posterior horn of the medial meniscus). Works out of Lake Tahoe Sports Medicine. Highly recommended, but I hope I never see him again...

Sounds like Squaw / Alpine are closed for the day. Heavenly reporting 48 inches! Woah. Huge forecast and the storm is over-delivering... again.

As of now Northstar is reporting delayed openings... probably a lot of digging this morning.

Last time I skied Northstar on a day like this I had to pole my way downhill. Not enough gravity there.

The backside trees (except for the run-out at the bottom) and Lookout Mountain are fine with multiple feet of snow. The front side, yeah, you may need water skis. Better than sitting around all day... if they even open.

EDIT: Sounds like no backside or lookout today.

Days like this you could probably straight line Burnout or Skiers' Left of Lookout Mountain and still not make it all the way to the lift.

Skinning around a meadow is an option.

Mt Rose should surpass its annual average snowfall today.

Yes, hands can get cold kayaking. I wear a dry suit and have pogies . Pogies are wetsuit mittens that velcro onto the kayak paddle. I was toasty all day, but my buddy said he was really cold when we got to my truck at the end of the day.

Mt Rose was the only place in North Lake to ski early season with the early high elevation snow levels. Now it doesn't matter. So stoked for this snow! I wish I didn't take off work last Friday to ski to have a day this week to play hookie.

Looks like it's a fine time to go into the backcountry all across the US...

The trees between Grouse & Powderbowl are nicely steep, but don't last for long. One of my fave spots at NS. A few other spots off EastRidge, same thing.
We are not gonna be driving over to buy a day tix though.
    Gonna hunker down.
Now, according to all ski movies we have seen, I guess we should be shooting things, letting off fireworks, or crashing sleds, right?

Just zoom out on the map that sits on the SAC homepage Clicking into any of the zones takes you to the local avy center.

Looks like things have gone full retard. It's gonna be so nice to have multiple backcountry options to spread people out. Here's to praying there won't be another rain event anytime soon.

I just want to thank the originator of this thread for the name. It worked.
Awesome intense snowfall in Incline Village, gotta be 4" an hour at least. Friday could be the day of a lifetime.
