Game on at Alpine... approaching a foot at the base. Shin to knee deep off roundhouse.

If you can't have fun off Roundhouse with a couple feet of light snow and need the summit to be open then you're not very creative (although when I posted that they were prepping Summit before the wind picked up and decided to close it down).
This is after some hiking / traversing above Kangaroo, actually... but there were wind blown pockets later in the day that were waist deep. https://www.instagram.com/p/BOyMs_vhM3_/
Plenty of snow at KW today. Spent a good portion of the morning lapping 7 with kiddos. But two morning runs of 6 were shin deep goodness and by afternoon things were even deeper in the right spots.
At least a foot but felt like more. Still dumping. Winds seems a little lighter.
The wood was pretty good today. Just had to play the follow the wind game. Pali laps were $. Got a nice core shot though, so still some stuff lurking below.
On a different note, I've never seen so many people in the ditch on the way out. Quite the shit show.
88 weather was incredible this evening. Other than a few ditch parties everybody seemed to be pretty civil. My buddy trying to get out on 80 ended up staying tonight because apparently it was impossible.
One of the better days at kirkwood this season. By afternoon everybody has cleared out and the wind and light snow kept recombing the snow run after runs. Sentinel traverse and the area below the fingers were the most consistent.
This is addressed to the Douche Bag Mother Fucker that drives an 2004ish white Tacoma and was in the slide side parking lot of Rose Monday morning at 9:30 am and on the very slight chance that you follow this thread, I hope we get to talk again. That was me that accidently pulled out in front of you. Big wind gust whited everything out momentarily, and I didn't see that the row ended and I kept going as you were driving out. The result was a low speed, near miss, with both of us jamming on the brakes and sliding to a stop. No harm, no damage. You were out of your vehicle instantly, and came stoming up to my truck. The look on your face was of barely controlled rage. I rolled down my window and the first words I said to you were, "I am so sorry for the close call. I didn't see you bro when that gust hit, my bad and it's on me. I apologize." Your responce was a string of F-bombs directed at me, then you turned and went back to your truck and got in Just as it seems over and done with, you stop, get out and you come up alongside of me. I roll down my window and with the goal of defusing this incident I apologized, said it was my fault etc..You respond with another round of profanity, told me to slow the f%#k down (I was going about 5 mph). I'm not sure if you noticed who was sitting in the passenger seat of my truck during this whole thing, and that's where this is going. It was my 11 year old son.
We hadn't skied together in two weeks. He was in SoCal with my ex-wive and her family for Christmas, I got back Sunday night from working the last nine days straight at Mammoth. He was blowing up my phone on my drive back to Reno with texts, all of them asking if we could go skiing tomorrow (Monday). He wants to take out his Christmas presnt from me, a pair of 165 cm Mini Bentchetlers that are 95 mm in the waist with rockerd tip and tail. First pair of fat skis. Game on kid. So we headed up to Rose yesterday and it allmost ended before it started.
Doing the right thing in front of your kid isn't easy at times, and the consequences of acting first and thinking second can be huge. It took every ounce of self controll I had to stay in my truck, be calm, and not kick the living shit out of that guy. Then what, it turns violent in front of your kid. A simple shove turns into an assault and battery charge or worse? My son's was asking, "Why's that guy so angry?" I said "Anger and rage issues, lets go skiing." Snow was deeper and lighter than I expected. It was also very cold, holwing winds on the verge of closing chairs at any second. Hard core storm day. We skied all day up until Zephyr shut down at 3:50 p.m. My kid was charging on his new skis and he is now asleep on my couch. Last words tonight were, "How early should we get there?"
I'll wrap this up with these final thoughts. Hey Bro, you got anything else to say to me? I can be reached here by PM or by responding to the thread. As much as I would have enjoyed stomping your ass in the parking lot, skiing was sick. Not that you would know as left really early in the day. What a piece of shit. I park on that side most of the time, and I'm there 4-5 days a week. I'll be looking for you, so keep in touch.
Uh oh....I think I jinxed us with all the weather talk.
Dunno what you mean but it's been raining "more or less" continuously down here in Oakland.
Pics of snow in Tahoe & sledding in Placerville are all over local news.
Snow on BayArea "peaks" too.

Ah Irony go it
...Remember, those who think Global Warming is Fake, also think that Adam & Eve were Real...
Jinx this! I'd settle for half. Actually, I'd prefer it, since this kind of precip often goes hand in hand with 9500' snow levels.

Stuck on 80 cause some idiot got stuck because he thought he could drive without chains. For real?
I know it's a little late, but I am concerned for everyone out there in the BC. I think the considerable rating is a serious understatement. There is a complex and dangerous avalanche problem out there.

There were some real winners driving the last couple days. From the Lexus RH400 with cables on the left side tires only to the Honda doing 30 mph on 80 in Loomis with its chains still on, it must still be early season for all the new-to-snow drivers this year.
Also, is it just me, or has 89 become the ultimate shitshow between 7 AM and 7 PM on weekends? It took 2 hours to get from Squaw to Truckee on Sunday, leaving Squaw at 11. It wasn't even snowing that hard. Someone needs to do some traffic control at the SaveMart - people kept ducking into the lot and then using the left turn to get back onto 89 just before the roundabouts, which screwed things up to no end. Note to future self: use West River Street.
^ It's probably Considerable because with only 4-6" forecasted today, natural avalanches will be possible but not likely. So it's an accurate rating, but one that doesn't fully convey the consequences of the problem.
Very Large avalanches are Possible at all elevations on W, N and E aspects.
That's really critical info. Also, Large to Very Large avalanches are Likely near and above treeline on lee-ish aspects.
I really want forecast centers to move the NA danger rating to below the avalanche problems.
On a related topic, Brian Lazar and Ethan Greene just posted a great article on Persistent Slab and Deep Persistent Slab problems:

I'm skiing NE facing trees at about 7500-9000 NE of the lake today, and it's officially too deep. I'm on Megawatts and 35 degrees is only enough for wiggle turns. Absolutely nothing moved, though. We'll see on subsequent laps. Also people skied Hourglass this AM & lived to tell the tale.
Good to know. Thanks.
I fear someone is going to die in an Hourglass slide soon. Folks ski it in pretty much all conditions these days. Kind of a false-negative feedback loop.
I thought about getting in a quick solo tour in mellow terrain before work but decided the risk (particularly while solo) wasn't worth it.
Good day at Kirkwood. 6 and ten fired early. Top of ten was a little dust crust but excellent day. I'm losing hope of sunrise because it's starting to pummel snow right on forecast 1pm.
It warmed up a bit around 11 so the snow set up a bit. Gonna have to wait for refills but it won't be long.
Further info from lap 2: I got a slab to move. It was all in the new snow, 42 degrees, and at about 8000' in a way sheltered spot in fairly tight, small trees. It only went about 30 feet, and was about 25' wide, but crown was 18" or so. I have photos but can't figure out how to upload with the phone.
Anyway, nothing remotely surprising here. Say away from the steeper stuff!
ride bikes, climb, ski, travel, cook, work to fund former, repeat.
I.P. was really good. Probably a solid 16-24" from the last 2 days depending on slope. Never got anything to move on micro steeps nor was there any whumping or collapsing anywhere. The steep as I got was just skiers right of the main rocky area on a wide open treed slope. Seemed safe as there wasn't any heinous windslabs or anything (I rode that section very defensively). A lot of other skiers hit off the ridge there too in the mellower trees. No one else got anything to move I talked to. As climberevan said, stay off the steeps obviously.
Powderhouse was nice today. Crazy deep, momentum skiing. Big beautiful pillows. Coverage thins out at the bottom, and (surprisingly) near the top looker's right.
Well done you guys. That all sounds a lot more fun than shredding the keyboard, all gnar-like, today after 2 weeks off.
