^ funny to think of those huge engines that made their way into late 70's early 80's gm cars that made 140bhp from a small block v8. APR stage 3 for the 2.0tsi is 522bhp... It's a $5k upgrade, and apparently people feel comfortable that it's still 150k+ miles before a rebuild. Completely insane.
That Buick wagon looks fun. More wagons are good!
I see what you're saying but I think it's camera angle. I bet given the reference points surrounding it, the roofline of the Buick would be at the shoulder of a 6' person whereas the Sienna would have a roofline above the same guy's head, not to mention the ability to render him bald, sterile, and soulless.
I still call it The Jake.
If you are gonna fucking doggy style in the back, get a big suv and drive off road so the vehicle is out of sight. Amateur.
sigless.
I say that a Sienna makes you bald, sterile, and soulless only as a jab to three of my old friends who became exactly that once they succumbed to one. The van no doubt is a versatile vehicle. Problem is, once these three old buddies of mine started driving one they became almost aggressive in their need to justify it, along with their new hairline, and their seething hatred of just about everything else their lives had become - all while trying to assure anyone that would listen that 'they don't get it, life is different with a family'.
Last I spoke to one of them after what I can only assume was a Sienna-induced-rant about God knows what part of family life they were trying to assure me I had no clue about; I reminded them that I had been married for nearly 10 years, had a kid, and everything else that accompanies that. Yet I hadn't become a black hole of suck to everyone around me like he (and the two other drivers) had.
I think I even suggested a wagon, or large SUV.
All I remember was a very large vein appeared on his forehead and his left eye began to jump erratically at that point. It was the last we spoke.
I sure hope he sold that van.

Scientists now have decisive molecular evidence that humans and chimpanzees once had a common momma and that this lineage had previously split from monkeys.
^^^Driving a nice car can do that for your self esteem. That is why I always buy my girl nice Beemers. They make her happy when she is in the car.

Not a wagon, but an affordable US diesel mid size SUV with 40ish hwy mpg: http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...e-drive-review
^ I hope that is a good product and it takes off. Mazda has been working hard to bring a successful diesel to market for a number of years. Cool story on their path with diesel race programs.
^^^It sort of checks off some important boxes for me, awd, check, diesel at 40+mpg, check, 6 speed MT, nope, wagon, nope.
I am trying to keep my present car going (165k now) until hopefully something comes out that checks off at least 3 of the 4 want boxes.
Looks like diesel has had it in US spec cars, so I guess I am waiting for some sort of hybrid wagon at this point to get the mileage up there.

as this thread was essentially created since true awd wagons are dying off in US, there is some logic for identifying relatively light crossovers/medium suvs that at least handle well. The Mazda fits that description and will kill it on hwy mpg. As you know, hybrids aren't great for hiway mpg unless you get something low and aero and drive 60 mph. But fwiw there's a lot of interest in a possible awd hybrid Kia as a version of this one: http://www.caranddriver.com/kia/niro-hybrid
I agree that hybrid technology is what auto manufacturers will be focusing on going forward to achieve the mileage goals set for the industry. With that said, I hope there will be a car out there I want to buy. I am not into the taller look of most SUVs. That Kia actually was not bad and the BMW X2 concept car looks pretty sweet (the actual X2, not as much). So there is hope I can get something that works for me down the road, I just don't know how many years I will have to wait.
Edit to add X2 pic:

Do you think the diesel CX5 will be sold in the US this time? I remember Mazda saying they were going to bring the last generation diesel to the US, then it was reannounced as only coming in the Mazda 6, then reannounced as not coming at all. Also remember reading something about problems Mazda was having with the diesel in overseas markets -- Australia comes to mind, but IDK why.
I kinda want a Honda Ridgeline, but a diesel CX5 would be very tempting. I thought the gas CX5 drove great, just needed more power. Those specs on the diesel would satisfy that, and provide good MPG.
The point of my link was that finally tge diesel cx5 is confirmed for the USA.

I've been following the diesel Mazda saga for years. Per the articles I've linked, and my memory, this is the first time they've been this specific about model info and release date.
Yeah, Mazda wavered with bringing the diesel to US market but I hope it works out. They've committed a ton of time, money, and effort to a successful diesel platform and by all accounts want it on US roads.
Mazda as a company is hard to root against. They make well-reviewed products, they strive for fun to drive, and they support grassroots motorsports in a big way. Participate in two autocrosses per year and Mazda will sell you parts direct at dealer cost. Hell, they even sell and support Mazda parts originally made for and only sold in the Japanese market. If there's another company with that level of commitment and support I don't know about it.
Commitment? Commitment? Call me when Mazda wants to talk about wagon commitment.
