Hit Kirkwood yesterday for first laps of the season. Good day to work out the legs with a bunch of quick laps since only a few runs off of 5 were open. Venturing off of race course and lower zachs found pretty thin cover. Stayed pretty cold through the day and snow started coming down around 3ish. This last dump should get 11 open but I think another is needed to open terrain off of 6, looked like it needed quite a bit up top still. They were working on chair 6 all day. Seems like it is ready to go.

Yay me if it stays down all day. Looking to get my first turns of the season tomorrow. A.M. reported 24" overnight up top and Squaw 14". Someone is a liar.

Squaw is about a foot+ of cold snow. The suns on it but not getting hot yet.

All the lower mountain trees are mostly open, and if you know the right traverses there is still long fresh lines between the switchbacks, if you ski lightly over the logs.

Legs and stomach gave out before the pow did.

    5/7 would ski again

First day of the season for me today at Sierra. The storm last night exceeded all expectations! Sierra reported 24" up top but only had lower half of mtn open. Seems like they weren't prepared for as much snow as they got and only had a couple mellow runs open. Can't complain though, any day I can get after 1.5ft of pow is a good day, especially in November on day 1! I'm assuming more terrain will open up this week.

Pro tip: Assuming you're a serious snowblader and have a quiver of snowblades, buy regular length skins and cut them into multiple sets. Just one set of skins designed for those goofy long skis gives you enough coverage for your whole blade quiver! Much better value than the snowblade specific skins. Those are smaller and cost more! Say what!

Totally worthy, top 1/3 of the zipper was money, the last 2/3 you needed to be light on your feet, no core shots but your gonna hit stuff with blower over little to no base. will be better with a little consolidation and a bit more snow

Thought I would weigh in on this thread finally. Been lurking pretty hard but haven't posted yet this year.

Anyway, I ran into a couple Mags last tuesday morning on top of the Hourglass. We all yo-yoed the skin track, but I had to leave pretty early. I think you both said your name was Erik but forgive me if my memory has faded after all the pie and turkey these last few days. Any of you guys??

$695 to ski Munchkins!? For that price the van that picks you up to shuttle you back to the base better be full of hookers and blow.

My thought as well. http://www.pacificcrestsnowcats.com/ is a little more than half the price.

Ward peak at AM has been ready to go since Friday (this is more than just my own speculation)... wonder when they'll finally take it off money hold? A lot of nice snow just sitting up there. I liked the dual Squaw / Alpine pass at first but I'm long over the lack of competition between resorts at this point. I mean, c'mon!

Has anyone poked around Luther pass or driven by since this last storm? How much snow on the house's?

    burly.

I know it's no where near Tahoe, but was up in Ashland, OR for Thanksgiving with the folks. Mt. Ashland WAS GOOD, 12-18" of pow with good coverage. Gf who came with did not tell me that she had never snowboarded powder (she's from the ice coast...) so 2 laps was cut down to 1... At least it was deep enough that she couldn't just side slip/ snow plow everything

Squaw was skiing pretty well today. Rock skis were a necessity though! Rumor is that a sewage pipeline burst during summer construction, leaking into the snowmaking pond up top. Hence the delayed opening. I guess all that manmade snow has e coli.

Yeah, just saw that a few minutes ago actually. I've never gone to p-w-house early in the season so wasn't aware of how much was needed to make it any good.
