Well, as said many times. SV has a cure for the traffic. They are building 1400 beds on the parking lot. Traffic will be much better.
On Big days, holidays ect. All the Skiers will all ready be here, in our beds. and there's no place for everyone else to park, so Don't Bother. Or take the bus!! (That's how I have seen it,)

Hey, it worked at Northstar, right? 267 is a BREEZE now that the Ritz, Hyatt, and the Whistler-wannabe village chateaus are full of knuckledraggers and park rats on the weekend. (/sarcasm).

You're right about the parking. They are only building 0.75 parking spots per unit, which means that there will be no place for anyone to park who isn't staying there, and even some people who are staying there. They'll still sell lots of season passes until people figure out that they can't get there.
Meanwhile buses come by once an hour, there's no place to park in Truckee or Tahoe to catch one, if you do get to a bus they'll drive past you full.
Sierra Watch has already said they will sue if the plan is improved.

Nothing to add aside from pointing out that the butt hurt on FB from prominent members of the community is impressive.

My least favorite part of the meeting the other day was some asshole - was it Livak? - who said day skiers are the problem. Meaning everyone who drives in from Truckee / TC or wherever else. As if tourists are going to fly across the country and stay in Olympic Valley and not head out to Truckee or to see Lake Tahoe. Fucking moron.

And yeah, Sierra Watch is going to kick their ass in court anyway and it's only Wirth's arrogance that doesn't make him realize this at this juncture. Take your BS back to Colorado...

The question is whether sierra watch has the funds to go up against KSL in court. Meanwhile expect money holds and other service cutbacks, forget about new Red Dog lift, as KSL spends their money on lawyers instead of skiers as they stick it to the locals.

The FB threads are getting even more entertaining. I think the greed of KSL is only trumped by the self righteousness of the loud mouthed locals.

There is a Transit Center, In Tahoe City right past Fanny bridge. Lots of parking - Underutilized. It's inconvenient at this point but it is there.

Not overly concerned with what goes on in Olympic Valley, but the traffic impacts to the region definitely concern me. When driving back from a morning session on the West Shore last winter and traffic was still backed up from Squaw through the mousehole in Truckee at 10am, that's not fun or safe... To further exacerbate the situation without serious infrastructure investment seems unwise...

So you mean standard operating procedure. ;-) (actually, overall they did a much better job last season)

This. Beauty of the valley arguments, character, blah blah blah, people need to get away from that and focus on the traffic. If you actually look at the EIR the traffic section is laughable in how it was conducted. A lot of people don't even realize that they based traffic levels on how much parking is available. As in, we have 3750 spots so that's how many cars will be driving around the valley on a peak day. They didn't address overflow concerns and what would result, which is amazing considering that's already an issue with more spaces than that and no huge village.

The effects of over-population are hitting tahoe especially hard. That's the only way I can explain why the roads are packed every single day when It used to be just weekends in the summer. Drove to Reno n back via east shore and the north bound traffic all backed up on 267 at end of work day was nuts. Is it like that everyday? I notice more and more trash on the roads and in town and increasing road rage incidents as recently transplanted "locals" /jaded noobies get all bent. I politely called out a lady as she threw her cig butt on the ground the other day and she got pissed and called me a treehugger

    Sigh......

Everyone is sandwiched between mountains and a lake on a thin strip of land with one line of ingress/egress. I never understood the appeal of living in Tahoe (I lived there for two years). Sure it's pretty, but it feels incredibly claustrophobic. There's a tad more room to breathe in Truckee, but there's still only a few arteries to move around. I hope the Olympics come back to Squaw just for the entertainment value of the catastrophic shit show it'd create. It would be legendary.

Cal trans makes what should be a quick 30 minute drive to Truckee from Reno entirely unbearable during the summer by creating huge 1-5 mile long traffic jams just so they can waste their allotted budget on entirely unnecessary work. The other day they were fucking re paving a 10 foot section of the median and creating a bay area like 5 mile long line of cars going < 1 mph. (some of their work is actually necessary but most could be done by private contractors in off hours in a much, much more timely manner)

    Cliff notes: people suck.

UGH! Tahoe is not for those people, especially during fire season. Ugh. I'm too afraid to call people out in Oakland/SF, but seriously lady where the f do you think those cigs end up? Look to your fucking left and you see that nice lake?

Fuck, that shit pisses me off to no end.

^^^ This. This is not some pristine wilderness mountain valley--it's heavily developed as it is. The character of Squaw has never had anything to do with the ownership; it has come from the skiers and riders and the terrain mother nature has created (with some help from Alex Cushing's chain saws). The AG focused on traffic for a reason. I only wish she had addressed the situation in Truckee as well. It's not just about the Tahoe Basin.

The transportation situation is doable--WB and Chamonix both have extensive bus systems. In the summer you're not even allowed to drive to trailheads near Mammoth Lakes, you have to take the shuttle. Plenty of National Parks do it. It's going to take some major bucks to develop a serious RT system for Tahoe Truckee and those dollars should be coming from SV and other developers. Problem is Placer County will let KSL get away with some vague promises to throw a few pennies at the problem. And KSL can't even run decent shuttle services SV-AM and SV-Squaw Creek. (There is a story in the latest Moonshine Ink about how Truckee area developers in the area are required to build affordable housing but how, except for Northstar, it never seems to get built, and often the developers are able to go back and get the requirements lifted. Different jurisdictions but the same thing will happen with Squaw's "promises". http://www.moonshineink.com/news/hou...boxes-hillside)

The traffic is the main reason I visit the North Shore so little. They cannot ignore it.

PSA: anyone who might like a pair of Whitedot Directors in 178, there is a used pair for sale at Willard's in Tahoe City for $99. Look like great shape, one mount, holes plugged.

What size? My kid has probably out grown his Gotamas.

Anyone have any lines on cheap accommodations either in south lake or gardnerville, Carson, minden for saturday nights? My kid is playing hockey up there and games are Saturday and Sunday, Nov. through February. Thought about a travel trailer but it doesn't pencil out.

Edit: I am coming from Mammoth
