Not a good thing for those of us from the old way of life but no point in complaining now.

I had a hand in Brandon's tahoe guide book and I'll say I was less then impressed with it when it came out. And the author moved to ak before the book was even published so honestly that never sat well with me. That said it's not a bad starting point to get familiar with the area

Orchids, freshies, neighborhood burgers, sushi pier, pho, teps (best salad bar), and artemis are all my go- to spots

On a non-food related note - pretty disturbing:

if you search for lake tahoe warming (can't include link in post), there are some articles on unusual warming in the lake right now.

The scariest part is that only 6.5% of the precip in 2015 was snow, the rest rain, and only 24 days of below freezing avg tem.
(The rain/snow statistic is skewed by the extremely dry Jan-March and some very big rain storms in July, but still . . . .)

I take it you're referring to March 2015 and not this past March...

Before we get too doomsday around here... 6.5% at what elevation? Lake level I assume. So what was it before that? It's not like in the past it was 50% snow at 6200 feet. There was still a hell of a lot of snow on the upper mountains.

The 6.5% is at lake level. While obviously the percentage has never been close to 100, the 6.5% is the lowest since the statistic has been kept. The figure refers to the calendar year 2015, not the 2015-16 ski season (most people use the calendar year, accountants use the fiscal year, we use the ski season and the rest of the year doesn't count.)

Any discussion on the recent KSL Development - Save Squaw Valley - Battle?

I see there are a bunch of people in Kings Beach for another Planning commission meeting today.
I cannot recall ever seeing so much effort to override something almost no one within 200 miles of the community wants.
    Waiting to hear ..........

The attorney general just came out with a letter criticizing the SV EIR as grossly inadequate based on traffic.

Planning Commission recommends the project. Bunch of old white guys, big shocker. So now the board can either choose to ignore their recommendation, or eventually lose in a court battle due to the shoddy EIR. The lack of properly amending that document after all of the glaring comments during the draft process is going to prove to be KSL / Placer County's downfall on this.

I need to think on it. Ultimately any real change is going to be some years down the road.

I at this time am not sure what the real end game is, and who is on the right side of history.

To be honest it's not OK as is. How and what change comes about? time will tell.

Anyone who has tried to drive around Truckee on a snowy Sunday afternoon knows that the current traffic situation is intolerable. Add a bunch more people trying to leave Squaw and nobody is going anyplace. I hope the Town of Truckee joins the inevitable lawsuit (but I'm not holding my breath--Truckee almost never does the right thing). I wonder if the AG has standing to sue--I assume she does under CEQA.

bodywhomper - they certified the EIR, amended the general plan, adopted the SVSH plan, etc. etc. - just all of the technical details needed to approve.

^^ Pretty sure Sierra Watch will file suit if the Supervisors approve it.

I knew the traffic section of that EIR was fucked, but I didn't realize how much. They claim on a peak powder day the average car on highway 89 travels at 46 miles per hour! I mean, wow! That's not even the average speed during shoulder season mid-week.

on a "good" powder day, isn't the speed limit on hwy 89 30mph?

i got less lazy and looked up the agenda from the meeting. the commissions decisions were all "recommendations", they didn't approve, adopt, or certify anything; that is the job of the County BOS. here are the recommendations made by the commission (per their agenda):
-amend SV GP and LU ordinance
    -rezone
    -adoption of the new plan
    -approve subdivision map
    -approve development agreement
    -adopt water supply assessment
    -certify EIR, MMRP, and findings

when i skimmed the AG's comments, i was left with the impression that they only looked closely at the traffic section.

    Squaw Valley Redevelopment.

As to the traffic I heard the Phrase (SV did not cause that problem) it exists regardless.

Does anyone know where the (Connector Gondola) falls into all this. I know that proposal is out there. - Not part of this.
What's the word on the Alpine - Squaw Connector?
