I'd load up some of the 210s and call it good. My dad has been shooting the 175s out of his .280 Ackley improved with great results on paper and steel. He hasn't hunted them yet but probably will this fall.

The reason I shoot 180's is so that I can have one round totally dialed in for both mule deer and elk. Right now my rifle is spec'ed to Nosler BT's in 180g that I build with IMR 4350. I habitually walk outside and fire one shot at the 400 yard gong cold-bore and always ring it. That's how I like things--real simple. Call me eccentric but it takes any adjustment out of the equation and leaves me very confident for hunting.

Try the 190s then? Thing is, with a 300wm the heavy for caliber bullets are best for long range. But at 500 yards you're still not quite in the long range sphere.

I haven't ever tried any of the swift bullets cause they are all so dang expensive. Bergers are great if you can get them to work. I have found Bergers to be really sensitive to distance from the lands and such so if you load to sami spec length to fit/function in standard length magazines like I have to - they shoot erratically (1 moa groups vs 1/4-1/2 moa.) I have found that not to be the case with Hornady AMAX or Sierra Match/Game Kings in my .243 and .300. But again, I'm coming from a target/plinker perspective not hunting so ymmv.

I loaded my Bergers to fit the mag. Shoots 1/2" groups at 200yds. Bergers in my experience like to jump the lands. Berger even recommends you load them off the lands. Again, so many good bullets out there today. Pick one, if going in my 300 it would be 200+grn. Perfect elk/deer weight.

Yeah, my dad loves them for his 6.5x284 and 300wm but I can't seem to get them to shoot in my .243 or .300wm. But when I'm working up loads I just go with whatever shoots best right off the bat and then figure out powders from there, whereas my old man likes to tinker with bullet seating to get them to work best.

Agreed on all counts. If I'm going downtown on steel, 210 berger is the round. But I've seen what a 200g bullet does to a mule deer and its not good.

I shot some coyotes with a 208 amax. Not much left.

A buddy shot a mule deer with 180gr corelock 300wm and it made a big messy hole too. Maybe a .260rem or 7mm-08 is the way to go for hunting inside 500 yards? I'm leaning that way.

Regardless of bullet weight you can't get around the velocity that a 300 is moving at.

Never owned a rifle but have shot borrowed bolt action 22s. Thinking of getting a Ruger 10/22 as a first rifle.

What do you think of that for a beginner?

Also, looking for a "slim" rifle locker or safe. Something that bolts to the wall, holds 2-3 rifles, and wouldn't take up too much room in a closet.

10/22 is a great plinker, watch out, Kalifornication has just put them on the banned list.

Make sure you buy plenty of ammo too before Nov.

The Ruger is available in many configurations and is open to lots of customization.

Hard to beat for a 22 auto loading rifle.

You should be able to buy these for some time to come which is partly why you may want to look at something else right now.

That and a shot gun are the minimum guns to have.

    Just dont move to Massachusetts.

Can I get some help pricing a couple rifles I'm looking to sell? I know I could go on gunbroker but looking to sell locally private party style for a fair price.

PWS MK114 upper, Spikes lower with a milspec trigger group, Magpul hardwear, MBUS and Vortex Sparc II, 11 pmags, about 600 rds of .223 and 200 or so 5.56 rds. Good working order. Maybe 1,000 rds through it. Had it a year and it was fun but time to move on. Maybe it would be worth sitting on until after the election?

Tikka T3 Stainless Lite .243 with a recoil pad, extra mag, Leupold VXII 3x9x30, and about 100-160 rds in a few different grains. Maybe 50 rds shot. I bought it for my dad and he passed away before we got to hunt with it. Thought I would keep it for my lady and she has no interest in hunting and I use my 7 mag for deer anyway.

A .300 WM is where the money will go.

    I would keep the AR.

Keep the AR15. If hil gets elected the value will spike. If Trump, it'll dip for a while but pick back up in a few years when congress switches back to a dem majority.

With everything I bet $750-$800 or so would be a fair price for the Tikka. Sweet gun. You could always build it out into a long range plinker with a new barrel and a chassis.

No. That would be an AR10 in .308.

.300wm is more like a Corvette.

Wouldn't one of the short magnums be more like a Corvette?

No, 300wm is expensive but affordable for the everyman if he saves for it. Like a Corvette.

Short Mags/AI/Nosler/Dakota wildcats are like Porsches.

I would keep that .243 for deer. It is what I use for mulies and white tails. Fuck hauling around a magnum.

It is a sweet little gun. If Conundrum didn't have the elk fever, I don't think he'd be stepping up to the .300 Win Mag.

BTW, got a box of Swift A-Frames today. They look like Partitions except much more consistent in shape and finish. A refined partition for the refined shooter, I say.

And as an owner of an AR10, I resemble your comment.
