Update: finally got around to going into the local Verizon corporate store last night. They gave me a new nano SIM for the Nexus phone, and activated it on our account. No charge.

Nexus is working fine on VZ's network.

I'll probably still go back to Project Fi in August, after our VZ contract time is up. I think it'll still be less expensive than keeping two of us on VZ's plan, and the coverage is sufficient for my needs.

Verizon just announced they will start next week to charge $20 for each cell phone change made. Not sure if this is only for devices through them or if BYOP not have a charge (if you BYOP and have no need for a Sim or ESN change, then they have less likelihood of knowing.

Just updated to Android N Beta on my Fi Nexus 5x and it is awesome. They nailed the split screen functionality. Samsung has had a shitty version of split screen, and of course you'd have to use Touch Whiz which would be majorly annoying, but this stock version is money. Apparently the battery life is supposed to be better too via some updates to the Doze Mode.

P.S. Couldn't be happier with Fi after leaving Verizon. Two months in and my bills have literally been 50% of what I was paying those crooks at VZN.

Been thinking of picking up a used moto 6 and starting Fi. Keep my vz account until I'm ready to make to move all in. Worst case the moto could be activated on vz if Fi doesn't suit my needs. Glad to hear it's working for you.

Does the OS upgrade do anything about the camera shutter lag on the 5X? I'm pretty happy with the 5X, but the shutter lag is annoying as hell and totally unacceptable from a $400 phone.

Does the shutter lag you're referring to have anything to do with you having the HDR on? The HDR will definitely slow the camera down, but it has taken some really nice cell phone pics for me in low -ight situations (concerts).

    http://www.trustedreviews.com/nexus-...-camera-page-3

"The camera’s also fairly fast in the automatic setting thanks to the inclusion of the IR laser assisted autofocus. In general I didn’t notice any lag between me clicking the shutter button and the image being captured. With HDR+ on, speeds do drop and there’s a noticeable delay between when you press the shutter button and the photo being taken. It's also worth noting the 5X lacks auto HDR, a common (and very useful) feature on top-end phones like the iPhone 6S and Galaxy S6."

Also, pretty sure the 5x is going for cheaper than $400 now. I got mine for $250 in March.

If you are looking for a middle of the line phone for a really competitive price. I just hooked up a customer with a Motorola X Pure Edition. Universal carrier- works with Verizon, GSM carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile, Hexacore processor, 32 GB of memory and option for 64 GB (expandable with microSD card also), 5.5 inch screen, decent camera specifications w 21 mp rear, and starting price of $349 customizable (special deal for one series of $299 looks like out of stock)

Still does it with HDR turned off. It's not an issue most of the time and I didn't even notice until recently, but it's been damn near impossible to get a properly timed bike action shot. Low light shots with the HDR do come out quite nice.

Don't remind me. I bought mine in January and I'm still angry about how much the price has gone down since then.

I do not understand why someone is paying you to get a phone for them when they can just get one themselves.

Because some people are busy, do not want to deal with the evaluating of specifications, shopping and cutting through the cellular changes and just like to have their new phone handed to them with their apps all installed, data and photos transferred from their old device. Trusted adviser, cutting their monthly bill too many times.

Why do people pay for someone to decorate their house, grocery shop, make a delivery or drop off and pick up laundry when they could do it themselves?

I'm considering a new phone right now as well. Currently have a beat up but functional Samsung galaxy s5. It has been good, not amazing, and I want to try something else this time around. Was leaning towards the 1+2 or waiting for the 1+3 to come out in a week and change.
Anybody have any experience with these phones?
edit: I use att service.... I have read a little about trials of getting 1+ to work on the LTE, but seems like it can be done fairly easily.

Asus is also coming out with some new Zenphones. Zenphone 2 was pretty nice device, so the 3 could be worth a look.

Pulled the trigger on a 32GB Nexus 5x through Project Fi. The $150 off deal supposedly runs out July 10th if anyone cares. We'll see if I can live with the coverage. If not, I go back to AT&T.

FWIW as the guys at work are slowly getting new Iphones, we're finding they're absolute dogshit for reception and texting distance from towers in a rural area with pretty good service.

4 wasn't bad, everything after seems to be shit.

I'm stubbornly holding on to my 5s because I don't like or need a jumbo size phone, it works fine, and I have bedroom alarm clock chargers that I don't feel like replacing. I also decided to buy out the lease on my SUV because the new models have way too much new shit to learn, the steering wheel has a zillion buttons and paddles, yada, yada......I hit 55 in May, and I'm showing my old fuck age.

My lawn in Philly sucks. Especially the front. The back is getting killed by dog piss. I'm not a lawn guy. If its green and short and doesn't die, it stays.

$249 for a 32GB if you activate Fi w/in 30 days. So if you buy it from Fi like I did, you pay $249 up front and then if you fail to activate it with Fi w/in 30 days, they will charge your CC another $150. There are also ways to buy it for full price and then get $150 back when you activate. Either way, they say the deal runs out on July 10th.

It is going to be iffy regarding coverage. I mostly got it because I could stand to waterfall my old phone down to the kids soon, one of their phones is shitting the bed. And I am going to Canada soon for almost a week. I also live near the border. I am finding that I m way too addicted to Google Maps when traveling. I will get to test out Canada roaming. If I end up back on AT&T, no harm no foul and I'll end up with a better phone than my 3rd gen Moto G and cheaper data in Canuckistan.

I love, love, love my 5X! Best deal price wise and Google Fi has been great. Had bad service for a few days and you can actually speak to a real person... then they followed up and the issue was resolved. Highest bill was $39 so far even with recent travel. Coverage has been fine so far.

Cool. Coverage in rural northern VT is going to be the clincher. There are a few spots I go where as far as I can tell the only tower around is AT&T.

If the phone comes this week as scheduled, I should be able to test it in Montreal on the 9th. Cutting it sort of close if you want my review before the sale ends on the 10th. Otherwise, I won't be back in Canada until the 12th when I head for the greater Toronto area.
