What does that leave CA with for semi-auto battle rifles that you can buy? The SKS? Anyone making a reliable modern semi-auto that is stripper-clip fed?

Well shee-it. That's what I get for reading a summary of the law and not the law itself. Glad I don't live in CA. Fuck, even the Canadians get more fun toys than CA, and they are all kinds of restricted up there.

I was sort of surprised by that when I first saw it. Setting the politics aside, it is fascinating.

And I almost forgot. It is even stranger that an SBS is allowed but an SBR is restricted or even prohibited, depending on the make and model.

Curious how well it worked. So many of those drum magazines are complete pieces of shit. Magpul makes quality gear, so I am interested in your report.

We got some video, I'll post it tomorrow. Did several full drum dumps and it never had an issue. I know what you're saying, one of our employees has an RPK and we couldn't get any of the drums he had to function 100%.

Stretched the legs on a few rifles today out to 600 yards. Had a 12"x12" steel plate on the hillside in the background.

I have to ask, it that all on private property? If not, do you have a spotter in case someone wanders onto your "range"?

It's FS, and yes we had a spotter watching the ridge and listening for motorcycle traffic. The area we were in sees very little access and we had clear line of sight within 200 yards of every direction of the target and could see the ridgeline from the road access point all the way to the target. Someone would have to wander 1/2 mile from the road down and up a steep draw, through brush, along a ridgeline and then down climb 150 yards of loose shale and grass to get to where the plate was... not to mention we were shooting precision rifles, so the a "miss" on the target meant we were 3" high or low. No rapid fire from the hip in the general direction of the target was taking place.

Also, no hiking trails in the area and we weren't shooting over any roads, trails, active logging areas or navigable bodies of water. There were no user trails or dispersed campsites on the ridgeline.
