So is all the smoke I'm breathing down here in Davis just from the Trailhead fire, or is something else going on?

Yeah but of those only Trailhead is really close enough to Davis. Looks like the bulk of the smoke is blowing to the west at the moment.

^That makes sense if a high pressure system over the Four Corners or Nevada is blowing wind out of the east. Also, initial attack fires (first day/burning period) aren't reported on those sites, so there may be something local.

Got one cooking two miles from my house. View from the driveway. Structure fire into wildland I think they've got it covered.

I hope they don't drop a bucket on my smoker....

damn. it'd suck if we lost all or most pines on our little 1.6 acre parcel.

RPF's are now predicting type conversions in the western slope.

apparently, pests that affect incense cedar and douglas firs are on the rise (drought-related, too); it's not just pine bark beetles spps.

    California is Burning (Again)

Yeah we've lost some cedar and fir as well as pine. We've lost almost all of the conifers at my house.

There are/Have been several fires East and South of me, but the Sky has been Blue.

    This morning it is different.
Is there a New Nor Cal Fire that I have not heard of.

I would say it's drifting up from all those fires in the Los Padres NF and Sequoia NF. You can see it on the Reno 1k visible satellite.

NWS Reno has some good info on smoke.

Another structure fire into wildland within two miles of my house today. Looks like they got a handle on it.

For California (and other nearby states) I use http://airquality.weather.gov/sector...hwest.php#tabs (and need to hover over one of the "smoke" boxes on the left to change the map at right). It's under "Air quality" (next to "Fire map") on my handy links page.

    Cool:
    http://airquality.weather.gov/sector...tLoop.php#tabs

Choose 1 hour average surface smoke from the "Guidance Elements" menu and hit the loop button.

It is dryer than Hell out west. You know the place is primed to go up in flames. So far San Diego County has missed it, but we are one cigarette out the window from burning up.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.
