Yeah, I'm not crazy about the extreme angled rear windows either in most new wagons. Seems to take away some decent cubic footage. Try cramming a dresser into some of these new wagons. No problem with my XC70 tho! That said, my wife and I REALLY want the upcoming V90, angled rear window or not. Haha. Then again, hopefully we'll be making enough loot where the Porsche "wagon" ends up being a real contender. That wouldn't be too shabby either. As long as we can toss the dogs in the back, the brats in the back seat, and the gear in a roofbox, we'll be happy.

It's like the other day the wife and I went up to the N. GA mountains for a drive in our 997. Some douche in a brand spanking new 991 S comes up and starts pointing out every way that his 911 is better and so much more evolved. Kept pointing to his very pretty ride and saying he's so glad he got this instead of some other amazing car.

After trying to escape the uninvited conversation on our way into the general store/roadside stand I had enough and told him that he obviously doesn't 'get' Porsche. There is no 'better', only different, and he should try that line out on the guy we saw earlier in the day with a gorgeous lime green early-70's 911RS, and clearly the only reason he bought his car was to start bragging conversations with strangers trying to buy a fucking Coke.

When I was in HS, my best friend's dad had an '83 SC. One day he mentioned to me that he was thinking of trading it in on a 996 Turbo, and asked what I thought of that idea. I told him that I thought he should keep the SC, because while it wasn't as fast or as new as the 996, it was a much nicer, classier car.

He's still got the SC today. Looks just like this:

Bingo. This is why BMW is ridiculous for replacing the 5 and (eventually) 3 series wagon with those stupid GT hatchback things. Goddamn just give us the 5 and 3 series wagons.

That Panamera is not a shooting brake. Shooting brakes are two doors with an extended roofline, hatch type tailgate and lots of glass, they have great visibility and utility for a small(ish) car. I'm getting really tired of the poor and incorrect use of the term. Call them what they are - WAGONS or estates if you're of the euro persuasion. Think Volvo 1800ES when you think of shooting brakes.

Theyre merging the boxster (718 spyder) and cayman (718 coupe) to the 718 line from what I understand. Makes sense, the two are close enough and complimentary.

I actually agree. Much rather own a Macan than a Shooting Brake Panamera/ Sport Turismo.

But your Audi/BMW wagon folks will snatch em up. Panamera is also the slowest selling Porsche next to the Cayman, so they need to do something.

I guess it was such a dumb comparison, I didn't really get what he was talking about. Between him telling me that the Panamera was not on a 918 platform, and talking about a 50 year old race car, Its hard to understand him. There is not just one 917.

917 has 11 different variants, so a singular 917 doesn't exist. There are two road legal 917s. There are 918 road legal 918s.

BTW, I take some umbrage to Porsche using the name 918 for their production car. I know its partly a nod to what is perhaps the greatest automobile ever designed by man, the inimitable 917....but the 918 is so far below the shadow of the 917 as to be merely laughable.

I would imagine a 917 feels like an uncomfortable death trap. From experience, I can tell you the 918 is the most remarkable car I have ever driven/sold.

Most people don't compare race cars and production cars. Actually. No one does.

In that definition they use the word 'wagonette' which to me means smaller than a wagon hence my impression that it should be a two door rather than a four door.

Based on the vids I've seen, yes. Bragging about # of tickets is a major part of the race.

Not a fan of Caymans? I drove a very clean 2.7L 06 or so recently. The 2.7L is slow and kind of tame even with a 6spd, but it's a very nice drive outside of not being tall-people friendly, fast or spacious like a 2+2. The new Cayman profile '13 or so + looks damn good to me. An S with the larger displacement motor and a little tuning and you should have an incredible car.
