    Run bikes

Don't buy a run bike for your RUG rat. Insted buy a small bike with pedals and take them off, when the kid gets bigger or at least good enough put the crank/pedals/chain/ trainer wheels back on the bike and let them give er.

.....and be sure to have a good neighbour who's willing to put the crank / pedals/ chain / training wheels back on for you for nothing more than a thanks and a smile from the rug rat in question. Thanks again xxx-er.

Two things: I have a buddy who wedged a dowel into the bottom bracket she'll to give his kid footrests.

And skip the training wheels. For many, they are actively unhelpful in teaching the kid how to balance.
