i cannot imagine walking into this scene. i'm glad he appears to be fine.

Thanks. So goddam proud. Purple jacket will be in Tahoe for a couple more weeks after Monday, Squaw national comp and Mt. Rose regional comp, Sugar Bowl the rest. Look him up! If you haven't been to an IFSA junior comp you should seriously take Owen to one of these. He'll be inspired. So much ridiculous skiing from young guys.

Thanks. Let me know if you need any insight into the jr. comp scene. We've been at it a long time!

That age group is in its earliest stages of development at this point. I suspect there will be more opportunities over the next couple of years. Keep an eye on events at freeskiers.org, especially when they announce next years events. Right now it's kind of random which events elect to do a really young age group. It will grow fast though! There have been a few instances where if the event organizers know a younger kid was up to the task there were special dispensations, but it's kinda rare...

That's OK. Focus is more and more on good skiing and safety every year (which pisses off my older one - he's stoked to compete in adults next year and not get dinged so hard for slightly imperfect landings as well as being able to go upside down). Especially for the really young ones. This is a good thing.

Ski the East which is part of Ifsa has categories for kids 8 and under in the junoir qualifiers.it seems that many of the junoirs that qualify the adult comp place very high.watching what the kids are doing today is truly amazing

If you can make it to Alpental by tomorrow morning there's an ultra-grom division....

Are there any vids of the young freeride kids in competition online? Interested in showing the boy what it's about... (Our local freeride team seems to be mostly park as far as I can tell as an outsider seeing the kids on the hill)

Forgot about this thread. My son has been having a killer season. Been fun to move all over the mountain.

He was stoked to be taking his buddies out last week and showing them around. Waiting for the shuttle with seats in the fresh.
