Get the 997. As great as the GT-R is you won't smile every time you see it in the drive like you will with a 911.

GTR is a cheaper car to own, and will absolutely destroy a 997 C4S. As Bmills said though, probably get more visceral enjoyment out of the 911. Also eventual appreciation.

That's a really pretty 997. Alpine Silver is the color for 911s in my opinion. I'm always more of a fan of the simpler models, or at least ones without all the body kit, so I think that's a particularly attractive example.

Damn!!! Considering 1985 and '87 911s are still going for like $15,000 to $18,000 .....$27,500 "buy it now" price for a 2005 997 seems a screaming deal !!
There is also a nice 2007 GT3 in god-AWFUL orange for $199,000 ...so $27,990 seems an especially good deal!!

$23,900 for a 2000 cabriolet sounds like a nice deal too! Even in the ticket-fetching red.
68,000 miles...not bad.

An automatic convertible with no flip protection?? Me no likey. Kind of funny how the used 911 are half the price of the gtrs but more $$ to maintain. Not very close to making that move just curious. It's impressive how well the 911s are cared for. Works of art even after 10 years.
Blasphemy! The GT 3 is fantastic in that orange and black. It's classic. And if you're honest you want your absurd track car in a wild color. Because you sure as shit ain't picking Timmy up from pre school in a car with a giant wing on back - so who cares?
Was it this one?

but the body rigidity is compromised!?
back on topic, beauty imho... f/r manual tire warming exercise. didn't know about the old skylines until last year. 1971 race, looking flat under stress:

Tiptronic is not on my list of 911 turbos. Not happening.
If the shocker don't rock her, then Dr. Spock her. Dad.
Things to not get on a 911:
Radiator
Automatic Transmission
7 speed manual
Speedster kit
ULP tires
?
Anyone contending that the Singer is not the perfect expression of the 911?
If you are a purist or collector yes.
However, the 991 is the best interpretation of the 911 to date. The 7-speed and PDK are both amazing transmissions.
I haven't driven the new turbo'd 991.2 911s, but I imagine they are perfect. The Carrera S with Sports Chrono has 414hp and hits 60 in 3.7 seconds...
dat non metallic color tho
The 911R will have a 7 speed manual. I am pretty sure it will be the best 911 yet.
As for Singer, I love them, but I am not sold on it's ability to hold value. If I were looking at a 400k Porsche it would be a GT3 RS 4.0.

Well... That's the first time I have heard that.
The best bang for the buck in the Supercar world is a 2014 911 Turbo S.
That fucker wants all the money. This is the same car, 40k less. 900 less miles. Factory cage. This will be a half million dollar car.

Yeah, I'm with Beer Drinker. My dad has had Porsches for as long as I can remember going back to his first 914 after college to his 991 now, and I've been lucky enough to drive and even buy a couple off him (996, 997) and the water cooled are better 911s. Yeah the air cooled sound great and they look fantastic but for driving pleasure, and everyday drivability without the sense that you might go ass-end into the guardrail, the modern 911 is the way to go.
I'm a big fan of staying "pure" but after a while it's like complaining that they don't use skinny tires anymore.
I will say that imho that the 991 is a bit too big for me. The 997 is perfect to me in balancing the classic design vs modern engineering. Hell, I've even found the 996's goofy headlights really growing on me - I think it's aged really well in the same way every other 911 has.

Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.
I don't think anyone would argue that the new 911's are not only incredible cars, but superior to air cooled 911's in every technical and performance oriented way. I'd be a bigger fan of the new cars if they'd just called them something else. Not suggesting this is a rational perspective...
Hmmmm....I just woke up and before I got the sleep out of my eyes (and brain) I almost instinctively (read that as "impulsively) pressed "Buy it Now" on this:
http://m.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911-CA....c100408.m2460
And then when I read the description, my "Buy Now" finger promptly withered. I KNEW a REAL 930 Turbo Cabriolet that looked that good had to be imaginary. It's a conversion of a standard 911 to 930 Turbo body panels (still nicely done, it seems). I'm certainly no expert on 911s...but weren't the Turbos the only ones with the wider rear fenders? 1977 930 Turbos are fetching ridiculous prices now...did they ever even make a cabriolet Turbo back then? If so, there could not have been many...what would they fetch????? Just wondering.
Here is a pic of what "LOOKS" like a very sweet car.....the one in the above ad that I seriously was minutes away from buying.
Gotta watch that damn "Buy it Now" finger...it can cause more problems than a penis.

From your link:
IT HAS OIL LEAKS, TORN DRIVERS SEAT AND THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION SHIFTS GOOD BUT WONT GO INTO FIRST GEAR.
What could go wrong? I say buy it. Post about it here.
ETA: "Shifts good". If the seller's wrenching is half as good as his English you should be fine with this purchase.

Ok thats funny.
Interesting how underneath many of us are aspiring 911 drivers. For me the 996 is nice but the 997's sexier form just steals the show and is less than a new camry. Would be happy to have a key to either by 40.
Check out the sound of this 997 4s with a basic CAI mod.
Man that's a pretty sounding car. Love the downshift blips.
The ducktail looks pretty good too.
