this poor guy thought he could hang with me as we did 80 plus down floyd hill, my radar detector went off near the top, so I knew the cop would be 3/4 of the way down, just as we turn one of the last corners I hit the breaks jump in the right lane and slow to 62, you sling shot past me so fast, thought you were gonna spin out after hitting your breaks so hard seeing that cop sitting there, I was back to 80 at kermits and didn't see you again buddy

I have no clue wtf I just read here.

But I do agree that the cop always sits at that spot 3/4 down Floyd hill

No way it should be every time you renew your license! You really think that'll stop shitty drivers to make people take the test every 5? years?

The test you took at 16 was a joke, why would the other ones be any different? Actually teaching our youth to drive would be the place to start. How many do you think get to experience locked up brakes, a slide, fishtailing etc before it unexpectantly happens on the highway? That's why they call them panic situations, that's not the time or place to learn how to react to regain control. If you've been there and know what to do there's no panic, just a simple correction.

Yes, but I suspect it is politically easier to invest in highway safety infrastructure than create the system required to teach and evaluate these skills to all drivers. If we had real public transport it would be feasible to keep a big portion of the population from driving.

It seems like it should be possible to administer a written test every few years online or at a computer terminal at DMV. Couple that with a realistic driving exam at renewal.

All this aside, I think distracted driving via cellphones causes a much larger percentage of accidents than we currently acknowledge. As a runner, it is downright scary how many people drive by without even looking up from their cellphone.

On the other hand, driverless cars are coming, so is it worth it to invest billions in infrastructure that might be unneeded or outdated in a decade?

See...morons. This is what Simple is talking about. My take is that the world has always been full up on idiots, it just seems like now the rest of us (check the mirror?) have given in.

Back in the day, going full retard was not accepted. Now, everyone is such a pussy that people are afraid to say, "what the fuck are you doing, are you a fucking idiot!". Try it, it's really empowering. You'll get all kinds of "that wasn't nice" and "you're so mean". Yeah...I wasn't trying to be nice and I don't give a fuck what you think.

For fucks sake, Boulder has an off lease dog licence. You're making the argument that we can't have some type of winter driving licence. [insert response of it's too difficult to get out of state drivers blah blah blah to comply/ the test will suck/ blah blah blah].

You vaginas are whats wrong with this country. A whole lot of whine about "problems" but any time a "solution" is suggested its not practical or feasible because it's "difficult". If that's how society wants it, so be it, but own it you pansies.

Say it out loud "everything is just gonna get shittier and shittier 'cause people will just suck harder and harder and collectively we are too worried about hurting peoples feelings and change scares me" .

had someone telling me how they were scared that the terrorist are coming to get us and how we need to keep all (insert any group) of people out of our country, told em I could care less about terrorist or people coming to our country I have a higher chance of getting waxed riding my bike on the road or driving down the highway than a terrorist getting me yeah people are fucked

I was struck with the irony of my situation one day as I thought I was being safety minded while checking the CAIC report on my phone on the way to some back country skiing.

Then I realized that looking at my phone while driving 80mph down I-25 is probably more dangerous than just leaving my beacon at home and skiing the gnarliest shit I could find.

It'll be long after you and I die that autonomous cars rule the roads, the investment is necessary if we're going to continue to reproduce and choose to commute to things like work and recreation.

ETA: I'm not sure a bunch of computers could do much better than people on a pow day on I-70. If every car had a computer and they all talked to each other and there was some super computer somewhere telling every car what to do every second there might be some hope but if they just look 100 feet around them then we're in the same boat.

    OFFICIAL I70 BITCH THREAD....

Looked bad bad bad at 11am as I was going EB. The thing I don't get...why is there such heavy traffic at that hour? Who's sitting in that for hours, skiing for a couple of hours, then heading back down?

    God bless the weekend warriors...phew.

You'd be better off just driving to Arizona directly from Vail.

Can somebody explain what tunnel metering is for and why they choose to do it at PEAK times? EB hold up till the tunnel, then things moved pretty well. Solid conditions on the hill today

It's so that a bunch of cars don't get stuck stopped and idling inside the tunnel, potentially overwhelming the ventilation system's ability to evacuate exhaust fumes.

The roads are clear, it's going to be a Monday, and the weather is going to be sunny all week.

You could probably make it to both locations on a motorcycle.

Roads in Town in Aspen are snow/ice packed for the most part. Everything else is pretty clear.
