Caught the Zuma Bowl opening...first the 14er trees were knee to waist deep, surfy, then they opened the cornice. Coughed on a few faceshots coming down. So good out there.

Dang! Snow looking really good on the low angle shots here. Anyone getting out in the steeper front range/summit backcountry? Any stability reports?

I doubt many people were on serious exposed steep terrain today. We were below tree line all day and got into some very short steep sections and hit lots of test slopes. While there was a shitty layer down deep we didn't get anything to move and observed no signs of instability.

Oddly enough there were also no lines and the pow lasted all day found a really cool new zone too.

The park has been skiing well. I imagine after last night it's fkn awesome.

Snow pack is super punchy and collapsible in the backcountry. Saw some slides near Berthoud Pass today.

40 inches in 3 days at Monarch. A bit crowded by their standards the last two days, but the snow was awesome. There are still spots available on Saturday for the first snowcat trip of the season, but the winds look to be pretty crazy on Fri/Sat, so I'm not sure it's a good call. Should be super deep back there though.

^^^ They fucking cancelled cat skiing on Saturday.... unorganized fucks. It's not like they didn't have two months to get ready for opening day even with all the snow this week.

Yes, I had a spot booked on Saturday. "Had" being the operative word here.

Seriously? They just got 50" of snow containing 3-4" of water on top of basically 2-3 feet of facets, crusts, and surface hoar. Incredibly unstable conditions. What did you want them to do? Avy control work is producing full depth slides clearing out the entire season's snowpack on single charges. I don't know how they prep/manage their cat terrain but I sincerely doubt that they have the resources to bootpack the large number of start zones of the terrain out there to the point where it would have made a difference in this storm cycle.

Long time lurker and observer, like 9 years. Figured I'd join. Monarch was money yesterday, this storm has been the gift that keeps on giving for that place. Lines weren't too bad, although busy at times for them.

Truth. The report regarding the slide pictured below from the Vail/Summit zone yesterday (Mayflower Gulch) is eye opening!

Made it to wolf creek before the pass closed, but they might not even open today. Too deep.

Purg got 4 feet this week so far and it is still dumping. Blizzard conditions with the wind and snow here at the house most of the morning and is supposed to snow into tomorrow. I have to go out and fire up the snowblower again to clear the driveway (fourth time in four days) and go up on the roof to dig out the peak vent. Best storm in years!

I've made it up a few times before the pass closed, but the area never closed.
It must have been pretty burly today. Tomorrow should be interesting. Sadly, it will be mid day before I'm able to get out of my drive.
    Enjoy your turns. Be safe.

I think he and Bean should start a butthurt section of TGR so they can fuck each other on how bad ski areas treat them.
