BA got something right today. Pointed out that even an average year in Tahoe is pretty good.

Anyone want to tour Saturday? I'm looking for a touring partner. PM me if you're interested.

In general I could use more partners, so hit me up if you're interested beyond Saturday. Babies are taking a toll on the partner list...

mid 30s, capable but by no means rad skier, avy 1 cert, pretty knowledgeable about the terrain around here, pretty good shape

Don't let this guy fool you^^^

Just go ski with him. I would suggest meeting TahoeBC or powdork as they don't have little ones to attend or have given up their job as a professional man of leisure like myself

The cold temps and low sun angle kept the snow user friendly, even after it got skied out.
It was weird but the snow got really chunky funky around 2:30...almost like there was moisture in the snow that froze up. Before that it was apeshit!

I ended up getting there one run before the chutes opened...

Oh were it so. Edgewood opens back up tomorrow so back to work I go. And if that weren't enough I'm also starting a 3 weeks as a solo parent tomorrow too (normally have them half the week). That said they are at the age where I embarrass them (every chance I get) so I still have plenty of time while they're off doing all the drugs and having all the sex.

This looks more like a Colorado extended forecast than California, right? No big dumps but consistent snow, and obviously higher amounts up top than listed...

This is a total shot in the dark, I know this is the Tahoe thread, but I was just wondering if anyone has been out in Nevada recently? Either skiing, hiking, or just driving through. I'm curious what the snowpack is looking like out there.

^^ There's a thread for the Ruby's you can search for. I recall some recent posting in there maybe last week.

From what I remember, the kirkwood parking dept once fit 4000 plus cars into that valley. We parked all the lots, east meadows to the tennis courts, Kirkwood meadows drive, chicken feathers, all of Freemont rd., the horse corrals, cross country center & kirkwood inn, the pull off at the caples spill way, and the alternate cross country parking lot at the caples cal trans station. i want to say this was 99-00 or there abouts

Is it normal for Vail to stop selling the epic pass in december? I wanted to pick up some as christmas gifts but they stopped Dec 6th. I have always bought my pass over the summer so I never paid attention, so this is new(s) to me.

This thread is getting me incredibly stoked. I haven't had a chance to use my Mountain Collective passes for Squaw/Alpine in the last few years, but I figure now's the time to do it.

I'm aiming to spend 4-5 days in Tahoe the week after xmas (taking the long way back from SF to LA). Any beta on what to hit/avoid? Since it's a holiday week, I'm assuming that crowds will be a shitshow, and that any powder will have been mostly skiied out, but maybe there will be some spots left over? The Squaw website is advertising buy 2 get 1 lessons, I'm considering signing up just to skip the lines (and get a form check before I start another season with bad habits). The alternative is offering up a few six packs to any mags willing to show me around the mountain, if that's appealing to anyone...

    dont you ski gunbarrel?

should you even be in that zone if you are concerned about moguls???

4 snowmos were at the base of Houghton yesterday. They pow-wowed and beat feet out of the non-mechanized area after seeing at least one skier skinning. They were probably pissed someone was there as the whole face was trackless. Better luck poaching next time.

After 4 laps today it was pretty much done for me, if your lucky they will pop Killebrew but it did get warm today, aspects with sun had rollerball activity.

Not necessarily super crowded. A few years ago when the best skiing of the season was over XMAS break the slopes were fairly uncrowded because the number of non-gold passholders who stayed home was a lot more than the number of vacationers. How many folks can afford holiday rate Squalpine tickets for a family? Why don't you wait and see how things go.

My hat's off to you. Bad vis plus heavy snow with ice on top was more than this old man could handle. Looked like the clouds lifted in the PM, maybe I should have waited. I've spent a day lapping Sherwood more than once but not today.
