Isn't the Wren 112 quite a bit stiffer than the 102 though? At least that's what I remember from reviews (e.g. adrenalated).

Yeah, the 112 is notably stiffer than the 102. Sorry, I don't have enough time on the 102 to give you a really solid comparison to the Cochise. My suspicion is that if you felt like the Cochise wasn't stable enough, the 102 might not be enough for you.

I'm guessing that the 192 Cochise would have been the answer to my issues that I had with the 185 version. But if the 102 Wren in a 186 is comparable to the 185 Cochise then I'm not really helping myself out. Perhaps the 112 Wren is the solution.

^^ If the 102 is indeed softer, then yes, the 112 is a good option and definitely slays harder than the Cochise - especially the latest versions of the Cochise. I was on the 186cm btw - 5' 11" / 175 pounds.

I can't offer any sort of detailed comparison between the wren 102 and the Cochise, but I also have a hunch that the 102 is not going to fix much of anything. I think the 112 could be worth a shot though. The edgehold is unbelievable and the speed limit is pretty damn high (skier weight dependent). It does exist, but you have to try pretty hard to find it. Like really hard. Its honestly not a particularly demanding ski for its style and what it can do. If you felt like you were overpowering the Cochise, I would think these would be perfect.

First day of the season Wednesday with an awesome 40cm overnight, was reminded of how much I like the dampness and stiffness of my '11 191 BG protos once things got bumped and tracked out. I've been debating hard between 189 BGs or Steeples to replace (50/50 resort/bc at 6'2", 190lbs). Talking to Scott he's confident in the Steeps but after skiing my pair, not sure I want to lose any of that chargeability in variable conditions.

My 189 steeple is significantly softer than my 191 billy goat, but i have yet to ski either so i cant say how stable the steeple is.

Damm i didnt know On3p got rid of the 191 wrenegade. That was next on the list.. whats the alternative? 190cm plus, 110-112mm, minimal tail rocker, 30m turn radius or longer, comp ski flex with some tip taper and not to planky

Wren 102 is for sure softer than the Wren 112. And while not exact, it is a very similar flex to the Kartel 106 and the Tychoon. I will tell you though that the new Cochise falls closer to the Wren 102 flex than it does to the Wren 112 as far as how if feels underfoot (stiffness wise).

The Wren 112 is pretty much the culmination of all of my favorite Wren models before it and is the perfect everyday, West Coast ski in my opinion. It destroys everything in the way but also can lay true trenches in groomers and crud.

As for the 191 Wrenegade...it may or may not be coming back in a limited edition, reserve type space in the factory.

Ever since they went with the lighter layup in that ski for 13/14, there hasn't been a decent review. Generally people like them, looks like the perfect deep day ride for a Billy Goat fanboy like me...

I've skied on Xavier D's pair, with the older heavy layup and I didn't like them at all. But conditions were the opposite of what they should have been for testing this ski.
I am pretty much unable to post un-biased reviews any longer like I used to back in the day. But I will tell you with extreme confidence that the current, carbon layup CD is lightyears better for 99% of the population than the older, super heavy, 129mm waisted versions we originally released.

Awesome. If that happens, count me in for spring or next season

As stated before I was going to purchase the 195 Line Mothership and switched course after your review of the orig 191 Wren... I own the very first year and have absolutely loved it... I was looking really hard at the 191 114, but opted not to do it as I am still looking for a flat tail traditional ski... I am 6'4" and 205 lbs and tried the 186, but just felt to short for my tastes... If you guys produce the 112 in a 191 count me in for sure and am ready to place my order now...!

This might actually be happening in 2 weeks or so (for our new Norwegian FWT guy). If anyone is interested in a pair, email me and we could get them done this year. Going forward next year, they will be available on a reserve basis (preorder only) once per year.

Edit - also, the 191cm is 113 underfoot.
Seriously, this can’t turn into yet another ON3P thread....

I have a spare '11-12 191 Wrenegade if anyone is interested. Half twin (small kick), no tail rocker. Don't really ski resorts much anymore.

Very similar feel in the deep, soft stuff where you can really use the RES. With that said, the stiffness and beef feeling underfoot is very different and makes these two skis ride on reaching ends of the spectrum....which is what we were going for. The Steeple is a great choice if you do a lot of BC, however. For bigger guys (185lbs+) a lot of them have just toured on the BG (I am on 191 BG's with Guardians so I am not exactly an authority on light-weight setups in the BC, haha).

Touring, lighter, easier to whip around and lug up version of the BG = Steeple
Crud busting, mach 18, powder clockin' da hoes, surprisingly versatile inbounds ski = BG

So your answer is to just buy both, basically

Thinking of a 186 Wrenegade 102 as middle ski in quiver. Liked 2015 185 Cochise during demo, but my ifffy knee wasn't loving it after a few days in Jackson on hard snow last February. Wondering if Wren 102 might be a bit easier on me, and offer me a bit easier time in moguls / trees without losing too much grip on harder snow than Cochise? Thanks.

I'd wager the opposite. More demanding in trees and moguls but with more edge grip.
