This iteration of the dogs is aging pretty fast.

I'm getting pretty tired of putting dogs down but I'm not sure if the other option (no more dogs) is better going forward.

Dogs should live longer.

Well I now the thread is "Just a Dog" but my little Kittie Pup is scheduled to cross the Rainbow Bridge tomorrow at 3pm. She has been in renal failure for the last 2 years and it is time to let her go. We adopted her 20 years ago, so she is 21 or 22 years old. I still remember meeting her and picking her up, talking sweetly to her and she just puuuuuuurrrreed. She was the winner. Best Kittie we ever had.

Amber was an excellent hunter, bringing in many a dead bird, rat or mouse to share with us. Always the favorite of all the little kids in the neighborhood. She would hang out front and I would hear the kids calling her to come out for some love. She never disappointed anyone, as she was such a social Kittie. She will really be missed. We have all been crying for days over her leaving us. A picture of our little girl. I love you baby girl. Until we meet again.

I am not much of a cat person, but 20 years is a long time. I am sure you have developed quite a bond.

I had cats as a kid, and the hunters were always my favorite. Bringing offerings to you, as a show of gratitude.

Vibes to the recent losses, L2S and TNK. We adopted a 7 month old black lab 2 weeks ago after putting one down in July. She's been amazing and puts smiles on our faces all day long and our 9 year old male lab is stoked. I'm generally opposed to putting any jewelry on pets, but my wife had this little doggy bone charm with zircons embedded in it, and she's sporting it on her collar. Too f'in cute when she prances around. The dog, not the wife.

Anyone have any cost estimates for a MRI on a dog? CT scans as well ? Long story and it's hard to type with out tearing up but my pooch has rapidly lost muscle control of his left front foot and his rear legs look like they have started to deteriorate. 2 X-rays by the local vet who originally said he hyper flexed his front foot now has no clue what's going on with him. He is 14 years old and 2 weeks ago if you saw him for the first time you would have thought he was 10y/max

My boy Norman is having a rough go of it. This summer he started getting hot spots non-stop. Multiple courses of prednisone and antibiotics, wearing the cone since basically July. Can't figure it out. A few pee accidents, which be never had (might be the prednisone?). Trying some super expensive food the last 2 months but that hasn't worked. Last night and this morning he had the shits. Feel terrible for the poor guy, don't know what I can do. Also feel terrible for my wife who has to clean it up because this was one morning I could not be late to work.

He seems ok otherwise, but he is a ten year old golden, so not sure how to take this. Will keep looking for answers.

Heading back to the vet again.

Danno, I don't know shit about hot spots. I am sure you have googled it. If caused by food, try and avoid anything with grain in it. My GSD doesn't tolerate poultry that well, so I feed him a lamb based diet. His coat was a mess before I started him on that plan. Maybe your guy need some probiotics to help settle his stomach / GI tract and google the recipe to plug up his poo issue. Good luck taking care of him.

A previous coworker had similar problems. Her dog went through the same drug treatments, etc. Turned out the dog had allergies to something. Sorry, don't recall the specifics, but once they found that and removed the source, the dog was back to normal.

yeah, we've been assuming it's allergies, and trying to see if it was his food. He's been on a special food that I guess is highly unlikely to cause an allergic reaction, with the hope that it was the food. But this keeps on going, so it doesn't seem to be the food. Next step is, I think, some type of allergy test to see if we can pinpoint it. But outside of food, not sure what there is that could be causing this that we could "remove".

Have exactly the same issue with my nearly 10 year old golden... last night he managed to eat the bandage we'd had to put on his gnawed at leg. Hopefully that'll reappear sometime during the day.

He's had allergy issues all his life varying and changing from dandruff, itching, foot biting, ear rubbing, sneezing... now appears to be he intends to eat the whole of his left rear leg.

We tried diet change early on, eventually had a full allergy panel done on him - off the charts with nearly everything.. trees, grasses, dust, molds. Several years of giving him Immunotherapy shots ($$$!) didn't really help.

OTC Antihistamines kind of helped when it's been really bad.

Expensive Attopica script didn't really do much. Finally managed to get him on the much in demand Appoquel which has relieved all other symptoms other than the damn leg eating.
