It's Tuesday late afternoon. I'd be shocked to see KW open Thursday. Friday maybe. I sure hope so anyway. But if we don't hear word by tomorrow this time I suspect they're going to wait until the following weekend.

Nice Nuthon! So is Sierra pretty relaxed with the pre-opening access? You can park in the parking lot and everything and don't have to sneak around early or on the edges like Kirkwood lately?

General store at Kirkwood has fresh squeezed on tap. I guess that makes up for the Kirkwood inn being closed. No pictures but today was good in the neighborwood

Kirkwood just announced a Saturday opening with 1,5, and 6: "We are looking at Monte's to Sentinel and all in-between mis amigos... "

Sweet shot there, nuthon. We checked out chickadee ridge near Rose summit and had very nice turns through luscious light stuff, particularly the upper half. There are definitely rocks around so we were keeping the downhill pace mellow.

Did the same with a few friends, though we might have been lower down than y'all (we skinned out the Interpretive Loop).
Found some nice, fresh, low-angle lines with limited rocks or bottoming out.
Ran into a few other like-minded souls, but most folks seemed to be down at the snowmobile access (more than a dozen cars/trucks parked down that way).

    Tahoe mags, need some help.

GF and I are doing a roadtrip up the coast from San Diego over Thanksgiving week (11/19-28). The plan was to stay on the coast all the way up to Humboldt, then back to SF for a few days before heading home, but with all the recent snow we're thinking we should head to the mountains after we get north instead of hanging around SF.

I know Mammoth has been getting hammered, but don't keep up with Tahoe snow as much. I've got the Mountain Collective (and she's buying tickets), so we'd be looking at Squawalpine somewhere around 11/26-27.

So far are we looking at WROD skiing, or some actual terrain (like Mammoth)? If we REALLY want to ski in November is it worth the extra drive to head down to Mammoth and just ski there?

Any cheap spots to stay if we make it to Tahoe? We'll have all our camping gear, but GF doesn't dig winter camping. Maybe a lower elevation spot nearby would be $.

Obviously this is pending weather for the next 2 weeks etc etc, but just wanted to start getting a feel.

It won't be clear for a bit, but my gut is that although it probably won't be a mere WROD, there probably will not be enough additional natural snow to make off-piste viable. I don't know how Mammoth is looking, but they have gotten more natural snowfall and that is likely to continue.

Casinos in Reno will probably be your best bet. You might be able to get a hotel in Auburn or elsewhere along your route from Humboldt, but you probably wouldn't want to be there more than a night.

Rose area had some deep pockets yesterday.....the bottom half was still really thin. It was a mad house out there yesterday, never seen so many people.

^^^Nice shot is right, but early season I always imagine that shot and BAM, smashing into a big ass rock, log, etc just a few inches below that first 30 inches of pow.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.
