Kirkwood stake is at about 13" with much more up top. If they weren't so anti-fun that would be the place to go.

Solid storm for beginnng of Nov/season! Seems like the last few (crappy) winters we've been getting the cold blower storm with high snow ratio and horrible base building potential to start things off. Could this finally be a normal Tahoe winter?

no! this is the year of godfuckingzilla baby jesus and we will except nothing less than a historically exceptional winter.

Even Tahoe Keys Blvd has standing snow and it isnt melting away. Insert awkward, politicaly incorrect joke referring to some current event as to why Tahoe has snow here.

My girlfriend is worried. She has a sinking suspicion that she will not see as much of me as she wants this winter. Omen? Let's find out!

Still minuscule snow crystals falling from the clouds here atop kingsbury. Was gonna go bop around the cp but with almost 14" outside my door at 7,500' ima just stay around here and head up the resort.

To each his own. I don't own a snowmobile but don't feel that snowmobiles are a problem anywhere I ski. We have loads of dedicated areas. Anyhow, just one man's opinion.

Wow. You know things are bad when people are going apeshit over 8 inches. Tell me how skiing on that 8 inches down kt22 is.

This is some weird shit. If you look at the 10 day forecast for Kirkwood, the highs for this upcoming weekend are 43 degrees. Across the lake, the highs for Squaw are 67 degrees. WTF? That's kind of a crazy temp difference for a relatively short distance. A week from now the south side may still be blanketed in snow while there may only be patches left on the north side. I blame KSL.

This is why I get both passes.

The angry pussy does have a point, even if she is just a annoyance. Also she displays a good degree of ignorance.

TJ, in this case, it is less the miles between to two, but rather how they are situated along the crest. When the valley warmed summer air is rising up the west slope, it finds its way up to Truckee and into the basin well before it spills over into the KW valley. So with active cold air aloft, it will be much cooler at KW than would be suggested by elevation until the central valley cools a bit. OTOH, once that warm air does dump into KW it can easily set up an inversion in between storms, and that is why the WROD at KW is such a PITA to create in the early season, while resorts at lake level have cold temps early evenings through the morning.

Nice looking start, but will wait for reports, and assume no switch has been turned. Still, wish we were poking around in the snow. If more comes next week, maybe I roll up with my kid and wood and try some sledding out.

Yeah, they didn't update the forecasts.

At least through the week they will have 10+ hours of snowmaking overnight. I really like BA's comment about what the storm door is doing--opening for colder storms earlier in the season. This is a huge change in the model from what we've seen the last couple years, and it's quite nice!

    Same deal on Accuweather: http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/squ...eather/2167607

Intellicast looks much better though, so hopefully that's correct: http://www.intellicast.com/Local/Wea...ation=USCA1090
I don't mean to be an ass....but the first two are for the "Squaw Valley" that's in the Central Valley, not Olympic Valley where the shredz happen aka Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows USA USA USA.
