I have been told that you can get ethanol free gasoline at airports. Also, i have been told that in California, the winter mix gasoline at name brand stations typically has more ethanol.

Jonsered 2172 is the same as the husky 372 with a different handle which you may/may not like better. Have had one for a while and it is great.

Anybody seen any wildlife in the wood pile. This spring was moving wood from back pile to front came across a big nest , about volleyball sized. Thought was huge mouse multi family condo as hadn't been back of the pile for 3 years. But after I grabed and came back I saw two going WTF where is out fucking house. Built a house out of plywood and put the nest in it on the hopes that they would move into a more permanent abode.

A couple of weeks ago was walking by pile and heard this second long low hiss like air out of a tire, then another, when focused in on the source saw a little bat head in between wood.

I went up into the foothills to a 20 acre parcel that's used as a paintball site.

The owner had cleared at least 20 cords of douglas fir and wild cherry 2 years ago and had let the logs sit that last 2 years, Most of the lengths were around 6-8 feet, so after lopping a few in half, a friend and I did 2 pickup to the gunwhales of mixed cherry and douglas fir. One load we stacked in the truck with 4' verticals on the sides so the pile extended above the truck sides. Had to check the tires on that load.

Spent the afternoon bucking it up and now have a nice big pile of rounds to start splitting. I know I'm late, but there's nearly 2 cords left over from last year, one split and another short cord in roundsr. Plus the new stuff just pops into slabs under the maul. I don't know if we'll borrow the fils splitter, it's a great opportunity for the little man and I to hang out and split.

So, we're set for the year I think with almost 4 cords.

Well, the apple and cherry I was hoping to burn this winter (split 12 months ago) still isn't anywhere near dry enough to burn. That stuff is going to need until 17/18 to be ready. Luckily I should be able to set that aside and still make it through the winter.

Just collected another 2 cords yesterday... Awesome mix of standing dead fir and pine. That brings me to 10 cords so far, which should be 3 cords into next year. If the weather holds, I'll probably get 2 more trips in and could conceivably be one whole season ahead before the snow starts to fall.

Weather has been extraordinary... of course, what I mean is that for late summer/early fall in Colorado, the weather has been completely ordinary.

Just the small limbs on that oak gave me a full cord. Can't wait to get into the big stuff. Suddenly I'm looking real good for a few years out.

So I recently got some wood from a burned out area south of Bend. Dead trees standing now for about 5 years. I knew it was suspect but I wasn't really sure on the extent to it's usefulness until I started splitting it. Wood ended up being bored out by beetle/termite, not really sure on the bug, but anyways, I'm assuming that it's not realistic to use it for winter heat. However, anybody have decent results from wood of this type? I couldn't really find any topics of discussion of the sort on google so I'll take my chances of getting flamed here for an answer. It's most likely going to be Bachy parking lot firewood.

It will burn. Maybe not as well as it would without bugs but it will burn. Use it. At least you're killing the little bastards and getting some BTUs. My cedars are infested with ants. Fir has beetles. Burn them!

I don't see why you wouldn't use that old bug-bored stuff as long as it isn't rotten. You probably don't want to bring it into your house to sit. Some of my juniper has some sort of bug that makes sawdust but I keep it away from the house until I bring it in to burn immediately.

I spent some time late last night hand splitting the last of seasoned hardwood that we have at home before this storm. Manzanita is the most satisfying wood to hamd split that I've encountered. The stuff shatters in a single axe strike.
