Killington’s Superstar proudly displaying its signature late-season “S” just like the superhero of late-season skiing that it is:



But our superhero’s kryptonite vulnerability is revealed at the rollover on top of the lower headwall – already broken up, with probably about 100' (linear, not vertical) of walking required by the Friday reopening:






However, fear not, as the snowpack up high is deep and wide thanks to what can only be explained by true superhero powers in defiance of Central VT mid-May weather:

Sheesh, that doesn't look good. With no freeze any snow pushed downhill will quickly melt out. I may be done at this point.

MTB was fun last night for mid July temp and humids in May. Had to waste a bit of time blocking off a baby-go-round for the sixth time. Ride or Walk, build no go-arounds.

I kept thinking that when I went to Killington yesterday instead of Otto and postponed Otto to Thursday that something unexpected would get in the way of that plan:

In our continuing effort to improve your experience on the Mt. Washington Auto Road, we are re-paving a one half mile section at treeline. We will be closed for all traffic on Wednesday, May 20th & Thursday May 21st re-opening on Friday, May 22 (weather permitting). We apologize for any inconvenience, but because of Mt Washington’s famous weather, we must take advantage of these brief periods during the slower seasons to accomplish this sort of maintenance.

Even though I was a bit disappointed I wasn't able to ski more this winter, I did end up with some quality days.

Anyone know how far up you have to walk up on ND at $towe to be on snow?

farther than you'd have to walk from the west trapps parking lot to get on some good climbs, dood.

Perfect for skinlaps, better than the mile and a half walk for 300 linear feet x 2 patches at bush south. Not so good for Weekend laps chasing powbmps or The Hammer as that patch is a little long for "fast grassing".

Anyone know how far up you have to walk up on ND at $towe to be on snow?

There was a long, but somewhat flat, pitch right at the bottom. After that, you have to hike up to cliff trail to get the upper part, so pretty far. Best bet for long stretches of snow with pitch are on Liftline, and possibly lord/north slope (the standard opening route which gets the most Snowmaking)

Riding gonna be the shizz tonight.

gap or no gap the snow was top notch before and after last sunday. flowing bumplines all the way across. vibe on the hill, on the road and at the U-bar has been great.

a little walking down for each ride up is negligible. and it's in the natural breather spot for those of us who don't go top to bottom in one shot.

haven't seen the hammer all spring btw. he was supposed to be out 2weeks back per radio ron. maybe he'll be out for this weekend's likely final four.

and forecast gets better each day...cold nites sooner to keep the melt at bay.

More of the same this evening, or rather less: will be a 100' vertical gentle downhike by Friday along with flat walking on and off the lift.
But otherwise the skiing is nice enough to nudge even the jaded Dynafit snow leopard into the edge of the picture frame.
